Assistant Director of Federal Relations The Pennsylvania State University The Assistant Director of Federal Relations reports directly to the Director of Governmental Affairs and will be based in Washington, DC. Primary responsibilities are to monitor, analyze, track, and recommend the best course of action regarding federal legislation that would impact the operations of the University. Attend events, meetings, and hearings with various legislative offices, industry groups, and agency offices to represent the University's interests on issue discussion areas and report activities to the Director of Governmental Affairs and the Director of Governmental Health Relations. Respond to inquiries from Congressional offices, federal agencies, and university officials and connect faculty and senior university administrators with policymakers, including coordinating Washington and campus visits. Attend monthly professional association meetings of which Penn State is a member. Ensure federal lobbying activity deadlines are met. Promote and manage Washington, DC based events hosted by the University. Must develop a strong working knowledge of Penn State research activities in such areas as health care, defense, energy, agriculture, outreach, information technology, engineering, etc., and be able to discuss the research with the Members of Congress and their staff. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher, plus a minimum of one year of federal government related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Travel to Pennsylvania is involved and requires a valid driver's license. Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and organizational skills with the ability to work independently are essential.
