The Government Affairs Manager will be responsible for supporting Microsoft's engagement with the U.S. Congress. This person will lead an effort to develop and implement new advocacy tools utilizing a range of on-line and off-line resources and directly engage Congressional offices on Microsoft technology solutions and policy priorities, primarily with Republican offices in the House of Representatives. This successful candidate will maintain and grow expertise on many concurrent issues and demonstrate a strong understanding of Microsoft's technology solutions and strategies. In addition, this person will represent the company to external audiences and communicate Microsoft's technology vision and perspective on general policy issues and technology trends. This position requires prior experience working on and/or with Capitol Hill with a strong political and technology skill set. In particular, the successful candidate will have knowledge of campaign and legislative processes, strong interpersonal skills; superior organizational skills; demonstrated ability to work proactively, creatively and collaboratively; and deep understanding of social media. The position requires enthusiasm and familiarity with the technology industry, an ability to understand, articulate and demonstrate new technologies, and a record of reliability and effectiveness in a fast-paced collaborative environment. The successful candidate will provide advocacy support to other members of the Congressional Affairs Team and work closely with internal stakeholders to develop and implement the company's strategies. Finally, this person should have strong technology skills to support evangelism of Microsoft's products, services, and positions across a range of collaboration, social and productivity platforms. Summary of Required Skill Set - Good understanding of technology industry and familiarity with high technology issues preferred. - Good understanding of Congress and the federal legislative process. - Strong project management and organizational skills. - Strong ability to build external relationships. - Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to lead and motivate others, and work as a team player. - Solid ability to use Microsoft products/services and social media tools. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Ability to represent the company publicly in a variety of settings. Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree required. - 3+ years of demonstrated work experience on Capitol Hill (or directly related to Capitol Hill). Preferred - 1+ years of direct experience with Microsoft products/services and a variety of social media tools.
