Job Description National Governors Association is seeking an experienced staff member for research and advocacy on a full range of issues under the jurisdiction of the Education and Workforce Committee. The Committee’s jurisdiction includes matters associated with education, workforce development and labor issues. The Committee serves as the principal liaison between Governors and federal policy makers. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Facilitate discussion and build consensus; • Research and analyze federal legislation and regulations; • Effectively communicate legislative priorities; • Provide content for daily emails to governors; • Develop and write content for website and policy updates; and • Collaborate and work in a team environment. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree plus substantive experience in more than one of the above issue areas. Graduate degree preferred. Lobbying / representation or related experience (3-4 years). Experience on Capitol Hill and with national organizations representing bipartisan constituencies highly desired. Candidate must have demonstrated skills in the following: • Effectively communicate orally and in writing; • Work independently, set priorities, and handle multiple issues at same time; • Facilitate discussion and build consensus; • Identify emerging public policy issues; • Analyze federal legislation and regulations; • Ability to collaborate, work in a team environment; experience working with high-level state policy makers in a variety of settings; • Competency in the use of relevant software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc.); and • Commitment to the organization’s mission and goals.
