The Truman National Security Project is now accepting applications for our 2011 Intern Security Springboard - a national security leadership development program. The program is intended to arm the next generation of policymakers and politicos with a firm grasp of national security issues, the philosophical tradition of progressive national security thought, and the practical skills needed to credibly address national security issues.

The Security Springboard program includes five one-hour, lunch-time sessions each Friday in July. Classes take place from 12pm to 1pm, with lunch provided. Staff Assistant
Pennsylvania Democratic Member of Congress seeks a staff assistant to be based out of a SE PA district. This person will travel with the Member in the district and will help to coordinate district based scheduling. The staffer will be responsible for driving the Member to district events and appointments, as well as advancing events to ensure proper set up.

Working closely with the D.C. scheduler, the staffer will help prepare a daily district schedule for the Member with detailed briefing materials, background memos and itineraries. Following events, the assistant will be responsible for reporting back to the district director and other staffers to ensure proper follow up on requests.

District Director:



Pennsylvania Democratic Member of Congress seeks a district director to oversee district office operations and Member’s strategic local agenda. Senior-level Regional Field Director Needed for NAACP

The Regional Field Director is responsible for overseeing field
operations in one of seven NAACP multi-state regions. The RFD provides
support for, and direction to, NAACP state conferences, branches and
youth & college divisions. She/he will provide support in the form of
trainings, leadership development, advocacy for regional units within
the larger NAACP family, as well as supporting region-wide member
needs. Mobilize NAACP units, members, people of color and allies
within the region to engage in grassroots and legislative organizing
and civic participation on targeted campaigns.

Reporting to the National Field Director, RFD will:

Coordinate and/or conduct Executive Leadership Training Work to
increase youth activism and engagement within the State Youth &
College divisions

Provide advice and counsel to unit leadership on effective operations,
NAACP goals and policies

Implement advocacy and civic participation campaigns on key issues,
and establish alliances to integrate non-members into NAACP campaigns,
with measurable accountability standards

Coordinate the efforts of regional, multi-state Field Organizers who
may be hired to work on specific campaigns

Support the work of NAACP departments in their engagement with the
region, including: Assist Membership Division with organizing
strategies implemented by state and local units

Problem-solve with NAACP Constituent Services at the Regional level

Provide National Field Director with monthly and quarterly progress
reports for strategic goals and organizing/advocacy activity of state
and local units, and other related duties as assigned by the National

QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited
college or university. At least five years of management experience,
preferably in a non-profit organization. Extensive experience
directing large, complex organizing campaigns. Experience in
membership-building and recruitment. Experience in setting and
achieving measurable targets, managing teams, and coordinating between
multiple stakeholders. Ability to handle multiple priority projects
and meet established timelines and reporting requirements. Ability to
communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to
execute strategic goals and work effectively with state and local
leaders. Excellent analytical, presentation and leadership skills.
Ability to travel extensively.

litigation as strategies to pursue this goal. We work with active state
campaigns and are advised by a committee of experts in the field. The CFSY

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The State Strategist will partner with advocates in a handful of states to
strengthen state campaigns to end juvenile life without parole (JLWOP)
sentences. The State Strategist will be based in Washington, DC, but will
travel extensively in order to strategize with active coalitions on reform
efforts, provide technical assistance to their campaigns, and build
relationships with the coalitions, as well as with leaders and legislators
in target states. The State Strategist will work under the supervision and
mentorship of the Director & National Coordinator to develop customized
strategies to end the sentence of JLWOP in specific states prioritized by
the CFSY.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Acts as primary point person in prioritized states, assisting advocates
and state coalitions in strategizing, conducting public education, expanding
the coalition, and organizing supporters.

• Identifies needs in the field in each prioritized state and determines
how to meet those needs.

• Builds relationships with key stakeholders in prioritized states, such
as legislators, families, victims, faith leaders, and prosecutors.

• Helps draft materials, organize events, and prepare fundraising
requests when appropriate.

• Assists with strategic planning to help state coalitions establish
goals and develop and implement their own strategies for reform.

• Stays abreast of political opportunities and threats within the
state—and nationally as it impacts the state—and helps the state coalition
consider the political climate and position itself accordingly.

• Analyzes litigation and legislative strategies to identify the best
approach for a given state

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in
organizing, policy reform, or political campaigns, and a desire and ability
to travel. A strong interest in abolishing the sentence of juvenile life
without parole is required. Demonstrated ability to bring together people
with differing opinions and perspectives is critical for this role. A
Bachelor’s degree is required. A JD or MPP is desired.

Job Description:
The Malaria Policy Center is looking to hire a Communications Director. The position is full-time and based in Washington, D.C.
The primary purpose of this role is to guide the overall communications strategy for the Malaria Policy Center to all audiences and through all applicable media channels and advise how the Malaria Policy Center’s work can be promoted and communicated as part of Malaria No More’s overall body of work. Job Description:

The MPC is seeking a Director of Global Advocacy (DGA) to oversee and manage its US and global policy agenda. The DGA will help lead the Center’s advocacy agenda to leverage government funding devoted to ending deaths from malaria by working with US and international governments. In addition, the DGA will be expected to supervise staff resources in furtherance of these goals.

The Director of Global Advocacy will:
 Design and execute strategies to increase funding and improve government polices to fight malaria;
 Expand advocacy partnerships in the U.S. and around the globe;
 Track and analyze current malaria data and policy progress; identify necessary research and data collection to appropriately inform policy agenda;
 Oversee the production of key policy materials, including white papers and fact sheets;
 Represent the Center at important meetings and global health advocacy conferences;

 Develop effective relationships with leaders of international advocacy organizations;

The Director of Global Advocacy position calls for a motivated and energetic individual to help grow an organization that conducts highly effective global health policy advocacy.
