Job Description
The New Business Director will market and sell federal government relations funding and advocacy services to nonprofits, associations and selected for-profit companies.
The New Business Director will work with the Senior Vice President and other members of the office to pursue and secure new clients. The responsibilities in this position will include working to develop sales and marketing strategies, managing new business consultants and the Business Development Manager, implementing sales and marketing strategies, working with the Senior VP, new business consultants, and client service teams to develop proposals, managing tight deadlines, and building and maintaining potential client relationships.
Responsibilities:
Monitors and pursues 100-150 different potential client leads at any given time.
Manages business to business direct mail and email marketing campaigns.
Drafts and edits proposals and other communications with prospective clients.
Initiates follow-up prospective client calls to strengthen the likelihood of securing new clients.
Knows/learns the Congressional appropriations, legislative and federal budget processes.
Analyzes new client potential and prepares relevant and targeted marketing materials.
Drives the new business development process by establishing project plans, setting meeting and follow-up deadlines, ensuring continuous potential client contact, providing supporting marketing materials, and engaging office colleagues as needed.
Prepares for and attends weekly New Business Matrix meetings as well as drives the follow-up process.
Desired Skills & Experience
Qualifications
Seven + years of professional services sales and marketing experience.
Proven experience in marketing or sales.
3 + years experience in direct sales to associations and/or non-profits
Previous work (paid or volunteer) on behalf of nonprofits is a plus.
Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
Capable of establishing, tracking, and completing multiple simultaneous projects.
Able to quickly build rapport, establish relationships of trust, and command respect from colleagues and clients.
Able to work in fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
Bachelor’s degree.
Exposure to and/or an understanding of the legislative, budgetary, and appropriations process.
One to two years of experience on Capitol Hill needed
