Legislative Director – The Office of Congressman Scott Rigell (R-VA) is accepting applications for the Legislative Director position. The LD will oversee and manage all legislative operations including an active constituent mail system and an aggressive legislative strategy. The successful candidate must have substantial Hill experience and be an effective manager focused on goals and accomplishments. Knowledge and experience in defense/military and budget/fiscal issues is very helpful and highly relevant to the Member and district. Previous L.D. or Senior LA experience is a plus. Candidates must have attention to detail, be task oriented, and be able to work with a team. Strong editing and writing skills are a must. Communications Director – Conservative Republican seeks a Communications Director to develop and oversee all aspects of an integrated press and new media strategy to drive the Congressman’s legislative agenda and in-district messaging. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and oral communications skills, political acumen and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously with an emphasis on delivering earned media in the district. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: drafting/distributing press releases; writing a weekly op-ed; letters to the editor as needed; regular updating and improving the website; preparation of talking points and speeches; establishing and maintaining strong relations with local media and executing an aggressive earned local media campaign. New and social media skills are a must, including knowledge of Facebook, twitter, video, audio and/or photography and editing in those mediums. Press Secretary - The House Committee on Education and the Workforce seeks a Press Secretary to handle education issues in the Majority office’s press shop. The press secretary will be responsible for writing op-eds, press releases, statements, and talking points, as well as handling all press inquiries on education issues within the committee’s jurisdiction. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing tight deadlines and enjoy working in a collaborative, team atmosphere. Strong writing skills and excellent attention to detail required; previous Hill press shop experience preferred. Knowledge of education policy a plus. Internship – The office of Congressman Michael Turner (OH-9) is IMMEDIATELY seeking a full-time or part-time intern for the remainder of the Spring and Summer in Washington, D.C. Responsibilities include answering phones, organizing, distributing, and inputting mail, providing tours of the Capitol, and assisting legislative staff in research and writing projects. Internship – The office of Congressman Tom McClintock (CA-04) has an immediate opening for interns in his Washington, DC office. The ideal candidate will be motivated, detail orientated, possess excellent research and writing abilities, be able to multi-task, and interact well with constituents. These are unpaid positions, but interns will have the opportunity to experience working on Capitol Hill, learn about the legislative process, and attend briefings of interest. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) answering the phone, giving tours of the Capitol, assisting with constituent correspondence, and supporting the legislative staff on various projects. California ties are preferred, but not required.
