Senior-level Regional Field Director Needed for NAACP

The Regional Field Director is responsible for overseeing field
operations in one of seven NAACP multi-state regions. The RFD provides
support for, and direction to, NAACP state conferences, branches and
youth & college divisions. She/he will provide support in the form of
trainings, leadership development, advocacy for regional units within
the larger NAACP family, as well as supporting region-wide member
needs. Mobilize NAACP units, members, people of color and allies
within the region to engage in grassroots and legislative organizing
and civic participation on targeted campaigns.

Reporting to the National Field Director, RFD will:

Coordinate and/or conduct Executive Leadership Training Work to
increase youth activism and engagement within the State Youth &
College divisions

Provide advice and counsel to unit leadership on effective operations,
NAACP goals and policies

Implement advocacy and civic participation campaigns on key issues,
and establish alliances to integrate non-members into NAACP campaigns,
with measurable accountability standards

Coordinate the efforts of regional, multi-state Field Organizers who
may be hired to work on specific campaigns

Support the work of NAACP departments in their engagement with the
region, including: Assist Membership Division with organizing
strategies implemented by state and local units

Problem-solve with NAACP Constituent Services at the Regional level

Provide National Field Director with monthly and quarterly progress
reports for strategic goals and organizing/advocacy activity of state
and local units, and other related duties as assigned by the National
FD

QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited
college or university. At least five years of management experience,
preferably in a non-profit organization. Extensive experience
directing large, complex organizing campaigns. Experience in
membership-building and recruitment. Experience in setting and
achieving measurable targets, managing teams, and coordinating between
multiple stakeholders. Ability to handle multiple priority projects
and meet established timelines and reporting requirements. Ability to
communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to
execute strategic goals and work effectively with state and local
leaders. Excellent analytical, presentation and leadership skills.
Ability to travel extensively.

The Truman National Security Project is a national security leadership
institute, the nation's only organization that recruits, trains and
positions a new generation of progressives across America to lead on
national security. Having progressive veterans and military families leading
on security issues makes America a better place, by putting these patriots
where they belong–leading on the frontlines of the democracy they fought to
protect. No one plays a greater role in securing America than our veterans,
and the Truman Project has launched a new summer training and organizing
program aimed at recruiting and training veterans in key districts across
the country.


Individuals who are chosen for this highly-selective organizing, recruiting
and training opportunity will be brought to Washington D.C. for a three-day
training with some of the country’s top political trainers before beginning
the seven week position. While organizers are out in the field transforming
veterans networks in key locations, they will report directly to the Truman
Project's nationally recognized advocacy staff.

The Communications Writer is responsible for drafting, editing, and

Organization: The Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth (CFSY)

BACKGROUND:

The Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth (CFSY) works to end the
practice of sentencing youth to life without the possibility of parole in
the United States. The CFSY collaborates with advocates across the United
States and in Washington, DC that use public education, advocacy, and
litigation as strategies to pursue this goal. We work with active state
campaigns and are advised by a committee of experts in the field. The CFSY
has a small staff that works closely in a friendly, collaborative work
environment.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The State Strategist will partner with advocates in a handful of states to
strengthen state campaigns to end juvenile life without parole (JLWOP)
sentences. The State Strategist will be based in Washington, DC, but will
travel extensively in order to strategize with active coalitions on reform
efforts, provide technical assistance to their campaigns, and build
relationships with the coalitions, as well as with leaders and legislators
in target states. The State Strategist will work under the supervision and
mentorship of the Director & National Coordinator to develop customized
strategies to end the sentence of JLWOP in specific states prioritized by
the CFSY.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Acts as primary point person in prioritized states, assisting advocates
and state coalitions in strategizing, conducting public education, expanding
the coalition, and organizing supporters.

• Identifies needs in the field in each prioritized state and determines
how to meet those needs.

• Builds relationships with key stakeholders in prioritized states, such
as legislators, families, victims, faith leaders, and prosecutors.

• Helps draft materials, organize events, and prepare fundraising
requests when appropriate.

• Assists with strategic planning to help state coalitions establish
goals and develop and implement their own strategies for reform.

• Stays abreast of political opportunities and threats within the
state—and nationally as it impacts the state—and helps the state coalition
consider the political climate and position itself accordingly.

• Analyzes litigation and legislative strategies to identify the best
approach for a given state

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in
organizing, policy reform, or political campaigns, and a desire and ability
to travel. A strong interest in abolishing the sentence of juvenile life
without parole is required. Demonstrated ability to bring together people
with differing opinions and perspectives is critical for this role. A
Bachelor’s degree is required. A JD or MPP is desired.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:
The Fairfax County Democratic Committee (FCDC) is seeking an
energetic, forward-looking, self starter as a full time Executive
Director to manage a broad spectrum of political functions for the
County Committee and to manage the operations of FCDC’s office. These
duties include, but are not limited to, support of fundraising and
volunteer recruiting, organizing volunteers and supervising interns
performing a variety of office and political functions, maintaining
internal and external communications, ensuring equipment remains
functional and the office operates effectively and efficiently,
advising the Chair and Steering Committee on committee business and
political operations, organizing various political events, and
coordinating with political campaigns in Fairfax County. The
Executive Director is currently the only paid staff member of the
committee but from time to time may be assisted by volunteers,
interns, and contracted staff. The Executive Director works
independently with general direction from the committee Chair and
FCDC’s leadership.

Qualifications:
FCDC prefers an applicant with at least a bachelor’s degree in
political science, public affairs, public administration, or a related
field with two or more years experience working in a Democratic
political organization such as a similar political committee or
equivalent campaign experience at the campaign manager or field
director level.

Knowledge and Skills:
1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

2. Knowledge of office business practices including budgeting and
contracting.

3. Familiarity with fundraising strategy and techniques and FEC and
Virginia fundraising rules and regulations.

4. Knowledge of the uses of technology in an office and political
organization including Web site management, voter data bases,
Microsoft Office, NGP, and uses of mass emails and social media.

Contributions are not deductible for federal income tax purposes.


5. Familiarity with Fairfax County and Virginia political
organizations and elections.

6. Ability to organize, train, and lead groups of volunteers and
interns from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.

Within limits, FCDC will share the costs of benefits, including health

Working Environment:
Fairfax County is the most populous county in Virginia with over a
million residents. About one of every seven Virginians lives in the
county. Known for its quality of life, excellent business climate,
and world class school system, Fairfax County has a history of
supporting Democratic candidates in most elections but it remains a
partisan battleground for many elections.

FCDC is the local political committee and operates under the auspices
of the Democratic Party of Virginia. It is one of the largest
grassroots political organizations in the state with over 600 members
and an annual budget ranging from $300-500,000. FCDC is governed by

In its first few months, All Out’s growth has been explosive, already
counting as members more than half a million people in over 190
countries. By working closely with actors and activists on the ground
and mobilizing people around the world both online and offline, we
have helped stop the deportation of a Ugandan lesbian from the UK,
forced a public apology for a homophobic news report in India, and
kept a married gay couple from being torn apart by the US government.
Over the course of three days in May, All Out garnered the support of
more than 500,000 people across the globe to stop the passage of
Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill, which called for the death penalty
for LGBTs.

Campaign Director Position:
All Out (www.allout.org) is hiring for several senior Campaign
Director positions to help us execute our work. Staff will be located
in various regions around the globe including the US, Brazil, India,
South Africa, Philippines, and Europe, among others.
We need brilliant campaign strategists with significant online
organizing experience and a commitment to building an informed,
powerful base of LGBT people and their allies to push progress faster,
and to change politics and culture at every level.

Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute high-impact, opportunity driven campaign
strategies combining online tactics, media expertise and strategic
partnerships
• Identify strategic opportunities for AllOut.org advocacy campaigns
• Research priority issues, targeted officials
• Write persuasive email outreaches and supporting materials
• Monitor international and grassroots campaigns in our key issue
areas, and communicate constantly with LGBT activists on the ground to
identify opportunities for AllOut.org members to act.
• Represent AllIOut.org to partner organizations
• Support the development of campaign and media strategies with a
focus on human rights abuses against LGBT communities, celebrating and
bolstering local victories, and challenging legal, cultural and social
systems of exclusion and discrimination.
• Identify, recruit and build relationships with allied individuals
and partner organizations on various issue campaigns when
strategically smart to do so.

Qualified candidates must have:
• 3+ years experience organizing campaigns for social change; online
experience strongly preferred
• International work experience
• Fluency in verbal and written English and *at least* one other
language
• Ability to write quickly, persuasively and on deadline a must.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Proven success engaging the media around politics, and in particular
issues of social change
• A desire to work in a high impact, campaign team of dedicated hard-
working organizers and technologists
• Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, organized, and deadline obsessed
• A commitment to strengthening the voice of LGBT people as a path
toward progressive change
