Public Policy and Advocacy Administrator [Based in Washington, D.C. Office] Summary of Position The Public Policy and Advocacy Administrator plays an integral role in ensuring a smoothly run, fast-paced office and providing high-level administrative support and day-to-day management of Girl Scouts of the USA’s (GSUSA’s) freestanding Washington, D.C. Office. The Administrator maintains and coordinates the schedules and business travel for office personnel and provides diversified support to all senior staff, including processing office finances, creating and maintaining office files and databases, and working with vendors and suppliers. She/he also researches, writes, and prepares briefing books, related materials, web postings, and memos on a variety of issues, including legislative initiatives, background on members of Congress and administration officials, Girl Scout council activities, and girl-focused initiatives of other organizations. She/he coordinates the Public Policy and Advocacy Internship Program, including recruiting and selecting the interns, completing required documentation, training the interns, overseeing their projects and workload, and performing other related activities. In addition, the Public Policy and Advocacy Administrator has several major liaison responsibilities interacting with GSUSA national headquarters in New York. They include: working closely with the CEO and National Board Office to manage the Board President’s and Chief Executive Officer’s visits to the Washington, D.C. Office, scheduling high-level meetings for them, and preparing detailed briefing materials; working with the Girl Scout Research Institute’s (GSRI) research coordinator to ensure smooth and constant communication between the Public Policy and Advocacy Office and GSRI; and working with GSUSA’s Information and Technology Department to ensure that all electronic and telecommunication equipment is updated and issues or problems are resolved as quickly as possible. In addition, the Administrator may represent the organization at briefings, meetings, and other events, if needed. Qualifications • Minimum of 5 years’ experience handling varied administrative functions in a government relations environment, with emphasis on directly supporting senior-level management preferred • Demonstrated experience managing all office operations including overseeing financial matters, scheduling meetings and conferences, maintaining equipment, ordering supplies, and other related activities • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Internet searches with knowledge of other software packages, including databases CapWiz and Knowlegis, a plus • Demonstrated knowledge of legislative processes, federal agencies, and nonprofit organizations highly desirable • Proven excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills including high-level tact and diplomacy. • Demonstrated expertise in research, organization, and multitasking in a team environment with frequently changing and overlapping tight deadlines • Demonstrated strong knowledge of information technology, including proficiency in IT processes as well as hardware and software issues • Proven experience interacting with all staff levels in an organization, both internal and external • Experience overseeing the work of others, preferably interns, highly desirable • Bachelor’s degree in political science, government relations, business, or related areas or equivalent relevant experience EOE/Committed to Diversity Please apply online with cover letter and resume in one Word document at www.girlscouts.org/careers
