Qualified candidates will be able to demonstrate an assertive and organized approach when pitching, preparing, and performing media projects. The Director of Economic Development connects business, non-profit and governmental entities in North Carolina’s First Congressional District with necessary resources for growth and prosperity. The goal of the position is to promote economic development, job creation, and assist with district outreach efforts. The position reports to the District Director, under the direction of the Chief of Staff and the Congressman.

The Washington, DC office of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY) is offering fall Internship opportunities starting in August 2012. While the position is unpaid, the office will work with universities to accommodate applicants wishing to earn academic credit. First-hand experience in her congressional office will provide interns with an unparalleled knowledge and understanding of the development of public policy and governmental affairs. It will also offer a unique insight into the legislative process and parliamentary procedure, as she is Ranking Member of the Committee on Rules. The Rules Committee determines the parameters of debate for all major legislation before it can be considered on the House Floor, including which amendments can be offered. Intern responsibilities include drafting letters to constituents, attending committee hearings, writing summary briefs, researching various issues for the legislative staff and assisting with additional office duties. Interns are an integral part of the team and are given substantial opportunities to learn and grow in a fast-paced and active office.
