Resume Service via DemCom

November 9, 2012 Introducing the Resume Bank on DemCom House Democratic Staff, Earlier this week, along with the major House Democratic Caucuses, we announced the House Democrats’ new online resume bank. Over 1,000 resumes have been submitted in the first 48 hours. All submitted resumes can be viewed by each of you on DemCom’s new Resume Bank page https://demcom.house.gov/user/login?destination=resources%2Fresumes. The new resume bank gives each office access to a large new pool of applicants, provides new tools to efficiently search and organize resumes of interest, and empowers offices and individual staffers with a new way to get potential applicants considered and recommended for work on the Hill. Details and suggested use examples of the new tools are described below. BROWSE, SEARCH, AND SORT ALL SUBMITTED RESUMES Search/sort criteria includes all the questions that are asked on the public resume form, including positions of interest, previous Hill experience/positions, home state, issue areas of interest, education, languages spoken, political party, and ethnicity. Suggested use example: If your office needs to hire a press secretary, you could, for example, search for people who (1) are interested in the press secretary position, (2) have previously worked as a press secretary on the Hill, (3) are Democrats, and (4) are proficient in speaking Spanish. MAKE CUSTOM, PRIVATE RESUME LISTS THAT CAN BE EMAILED When viewing any individual resume, you will see a section called “My Resume Lists” where you can create different lists and add the resume that you are viewing to any of them. Any lists you create will be completely private to you. And from your profile page (which is always linked to at the very top of DemCom), you can easily convert any resume list to an email that will have all the resumes as attachments. Suggested Member office use example: If your office is hiring an energy LA and an LD, you could create private lists titled “Energy LA” and “LD.” Then as you browse through resumes, you could add candidates to those lists. When you narrow the field to the finalists, you can use the email function to send the resumes to your boss for final consideration. Suggested Caucus/Coalition office use example: If you would like to suggest a list of COS candidates to a freshman Member, you could ask that all of your candidates submit their resume on the public form, then add them all to a private resume list, and then use the email list function to quickly email all the resumes to the freshman member or staffer. RECOMMEND, ENDORSE, OR COMMENT ON SUBMISSIONS If you click on any individual resume in the bank, you will see that you have the ability to leave comments on the submissions that can be marked as either from you or from your office. By default, resumes with comments are displayed above resumes without comments. If you leave any personal comments on resumes, then those resumes will appear on your personal DemCom profile page. And if you leave any office comments on resumes, then those resumes will appear on your office’s DemCom profile page. Links to your personal and office profile pages are always on the very top of DemCom, and you can find the personal profiles and office pages of others in the DemCom Directory. Suggested personal use example: If a former co-worker or friend wishes to work on the Hill, you could ask them to submit their resume on the public form, and then you could find that individual on the resume bank using the last name search, and then leave a comment endorsing the applicant that is marked as being from you as an individual. Suggested office use example: In order to help former quality office interns find jobs, you could direct those interns to submit their resumes on the public form, and then find those individuals on the resume bank using the last name search and leave comments endorsing those applicants that are marked as being from your office. If you have any questions, please contact Steve Dwyer with the Democratic Whip’s Office (by email or at 5-3130).
