Communications Strategist -- The Council on Foundations

Communications Strategist The Council on Foundations is a national nonprofit association of approximately 1,800 grantmaking foundations and corporations. As a leader in philanthropy, we strive to increase the effectiveness, stewardship, and accountability of our sector while providing our members with the services and support they need for success. We are located in Arlington, VA, and serve foundations and philanthropists of all types as a resource for education, innovation, legal expertise and networking opportunities. We seek a savvy and experienced communications professional who understands how to leverage traditional and social media to engage members, stakeholders, policy makers, and the media. Responsibilities include: • Plan and execute communications initiatives to better both the sector and support the Council’s brand. • Serve as primary point person for all Council media relations, including drafting op-eds and press releases, proactively pitching media, facilitating interview requests and briefing spokespeople. • Manage digital campaigns • Establish and manage relationships with external audiences, members and media partners. Requirements:  Undergraduate degree required, preferably in journalism or English.  5-7 years of experience with public relations/public affairs and membership organizations.  Track record of success using innovative tactics to reach specific audiences.  Proven track record of media placements  Ability to write clear, concise, and cogent materials targeted to specific audiences.  Project management skills.  Excellent oral and written communications skills.  Ability to self-schedule and set own priorities to juggle multiple assignments according to multiple deadline demands and to regularly communicate progress to all parties who need status reports.  Resourcefulness in pursuing queries and fact-checking.
