Managing Director -- Illinois Science and Technology Coalition

Open Position - ISTC Managing Director ISTC is hiring a Managing Director to lead policy and government affairs, and looking for candidates with a science and technology background, as well as experience with federal and state government. Job Description/Role: • Lead ISTC state and federal government affairs efforts including identifying opportunities for ISTC members to share a voice on research and tech commercialization policy, targeting and supporting funding opportunities, organizing briefings and other events in Springfield and Washington, DC, developing key messages, and aligning efforts with other state and national peer institutions • Support the State of Illinois and president/CEO in developing and executing ISTC and state tech policy strategy including public-private partnership development, membership engagement, and policy prioritization • Direct cross-functional teams to deliver high impact events, programs, and reports that advance organizational objectives • Serve as a voice for the organization and its membership on civic committees, grant teams, public forums, and community development activities • Use data and hands-on knowledge to identify research, innovation, and entrepreneurship partnership opportunities in sectors such as clean tech, biotechnology, manufacturing, and agriculture, as well as develop implementation strategies • Provide guidance and support to ISTC members and partners pursuing federal and state grant opportunities Qualifications/Desired skills: • Advanced degree in science and engineering, public policy, public administration, or business administration • 5+ years professional experience • Experience with federal agencies and federal and/or state legislative offices • Knowledge of state and/or federal policy making procedures, ideally including advocacy experience • Experience developing and/or evaluating research, entrepreneurship, or economic development proposals • Ability to craft strategic communications materials and talking points directed towards a variety of audiences including government officials, business leaders, and academic institutions • Strong diplomatic and relationship building ability • Track record of high-level execution • Comfort developing priorities and executing activities in a fluid environment About the ISTC The Illinois Science and Technology Coalition (ISTC) is a 501(c)(6) member-driven nonprofit that harnesses the power of research and innovation to expand and enrich the state’s economy.
