Manager, Public Affairs Practice -- Public Affairs Council

(New) Manager, Public Affairs Practice Public Affairs Council Washington, DC The Public Affairs Council is looking for a mid-level, experienced professional with experience in communications and digital/social media for public affairs, grassroots and/or political involvement to join a team of entrepreneurial and dedicated professionals who work together to enhance the value and professionalism of the public affairs industry. Managing the public affairs practice requires an individual who is a creative problem solver, a trainer and coach, self starter and community builder. Rather than advocate directly, you will draw on your own expertise to educate and train others on best practices in digital/social media and communications for public affairs. Successful candidates are passionate about political engagement and understand the integration of various communications strategies to advance public affairs initiatives. Additionally, they are driven to help others solve problems and desire working in a dynamic, non-partisan environment. Primary Responsibilities: § Be an expert and thought leader: Serve as the Council’s lead expert on digital/social media and communications for public affairs and respond to member counseling requests in these areas. § Translate expertise into executive education programs by planning and executing all conferences, workshops, and webinars in areas of expertise. § Build a community: Promote networking and idea-sharing among digital/social media and communications professionals in a manner that increases member value and engagement in the Council. § Create resources: Write materials that demonstrate the Council’s thought leadership and provide members with best practices on the use of digital media and communications for public affairs. § Public speaking: Increase awareness of the Council’s expertise by developing customized training programs and speeches. § Communicate: Increase member communications on trends and emerging issues relevant to professionals managing integrated communications and public affairs. § Cross-train: Develop general expertise in all areas of public affairs in order to create executive education programs and best practice resources that support integration of the public affairs function. § Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in relevant field § Communications and/or digital media experience specifically in a public affairs context; additional familiarity with corporate and/or association public affairs a plus § Must have outstanding public speaking and communication skills and value providing a high-level of customer service § Ability to establish priorities, work independently, balance many projects at one time, and meet deadlines and objectives with limited direct supervision or administrative assistance § A commitment to excellence and an ability to demonstrate sound judgment and leadership, often without complete information § Program management, event planning and/or consulting experience § This person must wholeheartedly be a team player committed to achieving not only individual goals but also team and Council-wide goals.
