Nevada Democrat seeks a District Director to oversee all District Office operations. This position develops and implements policy objectives, strategies and operating plans for the Congressman's district office and directs all activities and staff of the district office. Primary responsibilities include: 1) Managing and directly supervising district staff by planning, assigning, directing work and executing responsibilities in accordance with office policy; 2) Meeting with elected officials and representatives of local groups on behalf of the Congressman; 3) Representing the Congressman and/or assigning appropriate staff in the district office(s) as needed; 4) Interviewing, selecting and training employees in the district and ensuring that district office staff comply with office policies, practices, and procedures; 5) Maintaining close communication with the Washington, D.C. office and report directly to the Chief of Staff; 6) Traveling throughout the district at a regular interval to keep abreast of local concerns 7) Managing constituent services operation to include casework involving federal agencies and recording constituent opinions and concerns; 8) Maintaining a good working relationship with the Congressman, staff, and constituents; 9) Working well under pressure and handles stress and long hours. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in political science or related field, including strong academic credentials is required. An advanced degree is desirable. Alternatively, five-ten years of related experience or training in management and/or legislation or equivalent similar experience. Additional skills and knowledge include: 1) Thorough knowledge of Nevada and of the District’s specific demographics, community groups, political structures, and key issues; 2) A track record of successful staff management ; 3) Experience with constituent services in local, state, or federal government; 4) Commitment to see projects and action plans through to completion with attention to details of follow-up plans; 5) A commitment to a service-oriented, proactive approach to creating a standard of excellence in the Member’s office; 6) Excellent oral and written communication skills; 7) Knowledge of office computer applications.
