The majority staff of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology is
looking for undergraduate and/or graduate interns for Spring 2015 under. Interns

Constituent Service Internship - Constituent Service Interns will work in the

Outreach Internship - The Outreach Intern will work in the District office

Assistant. Applicants should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, be
comfortable with managing multiple tasks, and have experience working on
deadline in a high pressure setting.
Duties include, but are not limited to: staffing the front office and greeting
visitors, answering phones, coordinating and executing flag and tour requests,
managing office intern program, assisting with mail processing -- reviewing,
sorting and responding to constituent mail, tracking legislative issues, assisting
with research, coordinating IT services, and helping with other projects as
needed.
Applicants should have experience interacting with the public, as well as
possess strong writing, communication, and organizational skills. Positive,
team-oriented attitude required. Previous Capitol Hill or internship experience
preferred. Ties to Virginia and bilingual in Spanish a plus.

The successful candidate must be a conservative, have excellent written and oral communications and people skills, political acumen and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: devising an annual communications plan to maximize direct communications with constituents that resonate and respond to their priorities; e-mail conversion; targeted communication through list acquisition, development, expansion and messaging; weekly e-newsletter; development and coordination of all franked materials including digital advertising; planning and preparation for tele-town hall meetings; updating and improving the website; drafting/distributing press releases; writing a weekly column; preparation of talking points and speeches; establishing and maintaining strong relations with local media and executing an aggressive earned local media campaign. New media skills are a plus, a desire to learn is required, including websites and e-newsletters (understanding of delivery and open rates), video, audio and/or photography and editing in those mediums. Prior TV booking experience is also a plus. The communications plan should provide for an ever increasing ability to draft and place op-ed pieces in local and national media; political press, trade association publications and major employer publications.
The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude and be a team player. Pennsylvania ties are preferred, but not required.
