Metro Area To Apply: • Experience: Mid-Senior level • Job function: Other • Employment type: Full-time • Industry: Defense & Space • Committed to hiring veterans About this job Job description The Director, Legislative Affairs reports to the Vice President of Legislative Affairs and is responsible for achieving Northrop Grumman's legislative goals, including federal policy initiatives and support for company programs. The Director will lead the development and execution of legislative strategies for a diverse number of issues. The position requires working closely with business and corporate leaders, providing advice and recommendations and collaborating to achieve goals. The Director will provide company leadership with timely legislative updates and represent the company directly with Members of Congress, congressional committees, and staff. The individual will facilitate congressional engagements, including briefings, visits to company facilities, and events. The individual is required to remain informed about various issues within Northrop Grumman as well as issues being considered by Congress. The individual will understand legislative priorities and concerns and effectively communicate those concerns to company leaders; similarly the individual will understand company priorities and concerns and effectively communicate those concerns to the Congress. Consistent attention to developing and maintaining productive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is essential. The individual must act at all times with professionalism and high moral and ethical standards. Job location will be at Corporate headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia. Desired Skills and Experience Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Law, Business or related field and a minimum of seven years related experience. A comprehensive understanding and demonstrated knowledge of the aerospace, defense, and homeland security industries and the dynamics of the federal legislative and budgeting environment and processes is essential. Experiences should include extensive exposure to a broad range of issues, including the legislative and political process and environment, U.S. national security policies and priorities, federal budgets and budgeting, and an understanding of the factors affecting legislative policy developments. Experience communicating policy views to congressional staff and knowledge of the congressional environment is essential, as well as knowledge about the professional standards for lobbyists. The ability to quickly and thoroughly analyze a broad range of issues utilizing varied analytical techniques is key, as is sophisticated/strategic thinking to determine how best to influence decision/policy makers. Demonstrated abilities setting and meeting objectives while reacting within a dynamic internal and external environments are a must. The ability to synthesize complex problems/public policy issues while identifying their related business implications and the actions necessary to advocate a recommended outcome is essential. Uncompromising ethics, integrity, sound judgment is essential. A hands on approach to problem solving, as well as a professional executive presence for interacting with and influencing public policy decision makers, senior management and executives internal and external to the company is necessary. The ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others is required. Must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen. A strong commitment and ability to work cooperatively in a fluid team environment is paramount. Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as project management, analytical, planning, presentation and interpersonal relationship skills are required. The demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships with others is critical. Must possess or be able to secure a Top Secret security clearance.
