Communications Associate/Assistant
The Democracy Fund is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Communications Associate or Assistant to support the Fund’s outreach, network, and branding strategies. The Communications Associate/Assistant will work closely with the Program and Learning teams to enhance the influence of the Fund’s grantees and program-related efforts among target audiences. In addition to having a deep passion for improving our democracy, the successful candidate will be self-motivated, highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and eager to work across a variety of communications channels on a daily basis. As a bipartisan organization, we welcome applications from Republicans, Democrats, and Independents – a willingness to work across the aisle is essential.
Candidates must have exceptional writing skills and a proven track record as an avid consumer and adopter of digital and social media. The Communications Associate/Assistant’s portfolio will include social media management, digital content development, grantee support, event planning, and media outreach. The position reports to the Manager of Communications and Network. Title will be commensurate with experience and ability.
The position’s primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Support the development and implementation of the Democracy Fund’s communications strategy and brand
· Work with Democracy Fund staff to draft and edit blog posts, web and email content, newsletters, case studies, and other materials as needed
· With the Manager of Communications and Network, hone and execute social media strategies to increase influential followers, likes, and engagement
· Conceive and design digital content, including infographics, charts, maps, and viral images
· Work with grantees to highlight and promote their accomplishments through social media and other available communications channels
· Manage regular updates to the website, and assist with website design and the implementation of online tools
· Monitor news cycles, grantee activities, and news from the field for opportunities to promote our goals. Collect clips on organizational and grantee activities
· Contribute to planning and execution of issue campaigns through media scans, planning, and pitching
· Support adoption and lead maintenance of organizational contact database
· Maintain annual events calendar, support event planning, and coordinate quarterly grantee meetings
· Track and report communications and social media metrics for the team
· Actively work to support other members of the Democracy Fund team and contribute to an organizational culture that is highly collaborative
· Represent the Democracy Fund in a manner that is consistent with our mission
Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree required
· 3-6 years of experience working in communications; past focus on digital and design preferred
· Exceptional written and oral communications skills required
· Familiarity with CMS and HTML concepts and/or the Adobe Creative Suite are a plus
· Professional maturity, ability to exercise good judgment
· Demonstrated experience handling multiple assignments simultaneously
· Success in developing and maintaining institutional, political, and personal relationships
· Willingness to work with leaders, advocates, and media from across the political spectrum
· Deep passion for strengthening American democracy
· Position is based in Washington, DC
