Director of the Fiscal Institute
Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is in the midst of creating a Fiscal Institute to undertake larger studies related to fiscal and economic policy which are less directly tied to the day to day workings of Congress or immediate legislation. Every year, the Fiscal Institute will run a number of initiatives on a variety of topics. Current initiatives include projects on disability insurance, broadening the social contract, budget process reforms, and an annual symposium on health reform.
Responsibilities
The Director of the Fiscal Institute will oversee the creation and running of the initiatives working with other members of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget’s staff. Specific responsibilities will include:
· Developing concepts for new initiatives
· Working with our grants manager to fundraise for initiatives
· Providing research for projects, writing papers, commissioning outside work
· Building high-level steering committees for the initiatives
· Working with interested Congressional offices
· Hosting high level conferences and events
· Overseeing the day to day operations of the Fiscal Institute
This will be a senior position in the organization.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
· Policy and research experience in the field of economics and policy fields such as health, retirement, education, technology, and/or labor policy
· Excellent organizational skills
· Ability to self-direct, manage many moving pieces of a project, and participate well in a fast-paced team environment
· Strong writing skills
· An advanced degree and at least 15 years of experience

Legislative Director
Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is hiring a Legislative Director. The Legislative Director will contribute to the organization’s ongoing legislative efforts in the areas of federal tax, health, Social Security, budget, and economic policy. The Director will be a member of the senior team. We are looking for a team player who has previous Hill experience as well as a strong commitment to advocating for responsible fiscal policies.
Primary Responsibilities
· Maintaining working relationship with key Congressional offices;
· Tracking relevant legislative developments and Hill activities;
· Running Hill working groups and policy briefings;
· Coordinating with the policy team to disseminate policy papers, issue briefs, op-eds, background memos, and blog posts to the Hill;
· Developing materials for Hill audiences such as one-pagers and talking points; and
· Developing ways to increase our presence on the Hill by seeking out opportunities to offer constructive policy solutions on key fiscal issues;
· Working with the senior team to develop legislative strategy.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
· Prior Hill experience, preferably as a legislative director or committee staff;
· Good relationships with Congressional leadership and relevant committees;
· Knowledge of key economic policy, federal budget, tax, and entitlement issues before Congress;
· Proven ability to work in fast-paced team environments;
· Strong writing skills, especially the ability to communicate policy ideas and legislative proposals concisely and effectively to members of Congress and their staff;
· A bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience in outreach, advocacy, coalition, legislative or campaign work.

Policy Analyst, Fiscal Institute
Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is in the midst of creating a Fiscal Institute to undertake larger studies related to fiscal and economic policy which are less directly tied to the day to day workings of Congress or immediate legislation. The Policy Analyst will provide research, writing, and programmatic support for those and other projects, as well as more general economic research for CRFB’s President.
Primary Responsibilities
· Lead and conduct economic and other policy research based on Fiscal Institute projects;
· Help manage and provide administrative and programmatic support for Fiscal Institute projects;
· Evaluate academic literature, economic data, and relevant government reports;
· Write policy papers, issue briefs, op-eds, background memos, and blog posts;
· Conduct research for CRFB’s president on various economic topics
· Assist media, external groups, and lawmakers on fiscal policy issues.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
· Prior knowledge of economic and public policy;
· Strong ability to learn new topics quickly;
· Proven quantitative, analytical, and research skills;
· Proven ability to work in fast-paced team environments;
· Familiarity with Microsoft Excel’s graphing and data manipulation functions;
· Strong writing skills, especially the ability to communicate policy ideas and legislative proposals concisely and effectively to a diverse range of audiences;
· A bachelor’s degree or higher, with a major in economics, public policy, or a related field preferred.
