Director of Public Affairs & Government Relations -- Wal-Mart

Director of Public Affairs & Government Relations Job Location: Indianapolis, IN Position Description • Assists senior departmental leadership in directing the execution of state giving councils • Collaborates with departmental senior management to develop messaging and implement multi-channel media strategies to drive and enhance company reputation • Cultivates an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics • Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce • Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals • Directs business growth opportunities for a geographic business unit (GBU) • Directs political strategies for geographic business unit (GBU) region(s) and/or high-priority urban market(s) under the guidance of senior management • Manages selection and performance of Public Affairs and Government Relations suppliers (for example, lobbyist and media consultants, polling and public affairs firms, trade and business associations) • Provides overall direction for Public Affairs and Government Relations • Represents company's regulatory, compliance, and policy positions and initiatives to external groups Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor s degree in Communications, Political Science, Business, or related field and 5 years experience managing projects or campaigns in politics, public affairs, public policy, or related field OR 7 years experience in managing projects or campaigns in politics, public affairs, public policy, or related field. • This position will be based out of either Indianapolis Indiana or Springfield Illinois. The territory this position will support will be Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. Additional Preferred Qualifications • 2 years of supervisory experience. • 3 years corporate experience involving direct media relations or coalition building. • 3 years direct lobbying experience in specified geographic region. • 3 years government relations experience in a Fortune 500 company. • Managerial experience running political election or grassroots advocacy campaign(s). • Bilingual. http://careers.walmart.com/our-career-areas/
