Senior Vice President, Healthcare

FleishmanHillard has an immediate opening for a Senior Vice President and leader of the healthcare practice in the Washington, D.C. office. This position provides the opportunity to work with cross-office teams nationally and globally to develop communications strategy for a broad array of healthcare clients in the areas of pharmaceuticals, medical devices/diagnostics, payers/providers, medical societies, public and private health education campaigns and health associations. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned PR agency practitioner with 15-plus years of experience managing strategic communications campaigns for healthcare clients. The ideal candidate will also be fluent in digital communications and social media and will have experience managing online communications strategy for healthcare companies.
Responsibilities include:
Responsible for day-to-day management of healthcare practice group and its clients.
Serve in a lead role to develop, present and execute integrated brand strategy and brand positioning communications programs.
Provide proactive high-level client counsel and creative recommendations on how to meet brand marketing/reputation goals through communications.
Direct the development and provide strategic direction for various client and media materials: plans, presentations, reports, communications documents.
Build, coordinate, and direct (team) implementation of third party communications programs; ensure best practices and quality of deliverables.
Develop and edit high quality written materials, including media correspondence, bylines, and speaking abstracts.
Develop relationships and coordinate correspondence with external audiences: third party organizations, healthcare professionals, media, etc.
Supervise and train junior account staff; provide quality control, determine workflow and assignments.
Build and maintain strong client relationships at the senior level and build/recruit strong agency account teams.
Lead the healthcare business development efforts for the office.
Be ultimately responsible for the profit and loss of significant client budgets and oversee the client budget development, tracking, billing and communications; proven ability to run accounts profitably.
Qualifications:
Seeking 15-plus years of healthcare communications experience in a PR agency, healthcare association/society, government health agency or corporate setting.
Strong knowledge of the healthcare industry, healthcare policy, reimbursement issues, healthcare benefits, employer/insurer issues and the regulatory environment.
Proven understanding of media environment: including healthcare trade, national, consumer, and business media.
Proven client counsel, client relationship building, and team management; has grown accounts.
Proven experience in planning and managing communications programs.
Proven experience in managing a team of talented communication professionals.
Energetic, self-starter and problem solver; gets things moving, keeps them on track, and understands how to switch gears when needed.
Professional writing and presentation skills.
Expertise with social/digital campaigns for healthcare.
Proven experience in business development.
