Director of Legislative Affairs Profile -- The Fertilizer Institute

Director of Legislative Affairs Profile The director of legislative affairs reports to the vice president of legislative affairs for lobbying activities and on matters regarding political action committee (FERTPAC) contributions, expenditures and fundraising activities. The person holding this position is primarily responsible for lobbying assigned federal legislative issues on Capitol Hill. This includes writing briefing materials, testimony, legislation (with TFI counsel), draft congressional statements and other documents as necessary. This person also communicates regularly with TFI member company Washington Representatives and relevant TFI councils and task forces. This person is expected to work in close coordination with other members of the government affairs team to implement the Institute’s strategic legislative and government affairs efforts. This person also works with members of the public relations and regulatory affairs teams to keep TFI members informed of the Institute’s lobbying and government affairs activities. A successful director of government affairs is a self-starter that will work tirelessly to advocate on behalf of the fertilizer industry and serve as the voice of the industry with policymakers and their staff. Primary Duties and Responsibilities • Monitor legislative and political activities and act as lead lobbyist on issues assigned • Identify emerging government relations and political issues that could affect the fertilizer industry • Participate in coalition meetings on issues pertaining to the fertilizer industry • Develop and maintain working relationships with key members of Congress, committees of jurisdiction and key staff • Effectively communicate lobbying activities to TFI member company Washington Representatives and relevant TFI councils and task forces. • Assist in coordination of special political events (FERTPAC) Contact at http://www.tfi.org/contact-us.
