Two Positions -- Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA)
Director of Legislative Affairs The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), the national trade association representing the interests of independent owner-operators and professional drivers on all issues that affect small business truckers, is seeking a Director of Legislative Affairs in its Washington, DC office, which is located in the growing Capitol Riverfront/Ballpark neighborhood. The candidate will be joining a small but active DC office for an organization with a membership of more than 150,000 small business truckers who are focused on important issues such as improving highway safety, ensuring the continued viability of trucking as a family-supporting career, and improving and maintaining our nation's highway infrastructure. Experience within the transportation sector is preferred, but not required for this position. However, we do require a bachelor's degree and at least five years of experience either on Capitol Hill and/or within a trade association or other advocacy organization. Given the small nature of the office and the wide variety of issues faced by OOIDA and its members, candidates also must have a proven track record as a self-starter who can serve as an advocate both independently and as part of a team. In addition to advocacy work on highway safety and funding, this position will serve as the "policy lead" on labor, environment, and energy issues, and will work closely with OOIDA's headquarters staff on both legislative and regulatory matters in these areas. The position will also assist in the work of OOIDA's political action committee, work to engage OOIDA's members through grassroots outreach, and be a source for comments and background for staff from OOIDA's extensive in-house membership media operation. Please provide a cover letter, resume, samples of policy or political writing, and salary requirements to firstname.lastname@example.org. Grassroots Coordinator/Legislative Administrative Assistant The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) is seeking a motivated and social media-savvy individual to serve as the coordinator for OOIDA's grassroots outreach to its membership of more than 150,000 small business truckers. Duties will include working with OOIDA's DC and headquarters staff on developing, drafting, and issuing grassroots messaging, including calls to action and other engagement through e-mail, social media, and other venues. The position will also work with the Association's communications staff in coordinating media efforts, both with OOIDA's in-house membership writers and DC and trucking industry outlets. Additional duties include providing general support to OOIDA's DC government affairs office, including research, writing, assisting in scheduling internal and external meetings, assistance with OOIDA's political action committee, following Congressional committee schedules, and general administrative support. OOIDA’s Washington, DC office is located in the growing Capitol Riverfront/Ballpark neighborhood. Previous campaign, grassroots, or Hill experience preferred. Please provide a cover letter, resume, samples of policy or political writing, and salary requirements to email@example.com.
