Metro Area • Experience: Associate • Job function: General Business • Employment type: Full-time • Industry: Automotive, Government Relations • Committed to hiring veterans About this job Job description Devises strategies and implements policies, initiatives and recommendations to advance the Association’s federal legislative and regulatory objectives focusing primarily on transportation issues. Acts as a liaison to clubs on federal legislative and regulatory issues and initiatives. Facilitates business line involvement in federal legislative or regulatory initiatives. Analyzes legislative and regulatory proposals for impact on association policies and/or business line activities. Prepares the semi-annual lobbying reports to Congress. Relationship of Job to Management This position reports to the Director, Federal Relations. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Communicate AAA’s priorities (policies, goals, objectives) to Congress and federal agencies through meeting with Members of Congress, staff, committees, and agency officials; writing testimony, letters to Congress, and position papers. (25%) 2. Analyze federal legislation and regulatory proposals to determine impact on the association, clubs and members. (15%) 3. Advise clubs and National Office of congressional actions including drafting internal and external communications (Hotsheet, Interchange, etc.); write issue summaries and status reports; and present at committee meetings and conferences. (15%) 4. Attend congressional hearings and other meetings where legislative or regulator issues of interest to the association are addressed. (10%) 5. Network with external organizations and coalitions to advance the association’s priorities. (10%) 6. Facilitate club, National Office business line, Public Affairs Committee and Board interaction with Congress and federal agencies. (8%) 7. Manage association priority initiatives as assigned. (8%) 8. Respond directly to inquiries from club and National Office staff at all levels, as well as members. (5%) 9. Attend external organization conferences to communicate and present AAA’s policies/positions. (4%) Desired Skills and Experience • Bachelor’s degree and four (4) to eight (8) years experience working in Congress or in a related capacity at another association or organization • Legislative and issue tracking skills • Proven leadership and negotiation skills • Keen understanding of legislative and regulatory processes • Ability to manage multiple issues at one time and the ability to work collaboratively at all levels About this company AAA National AAA is a federation of 50 independently operated motor clubs throughout North America.
