Position Description for Director of Government Relations


Job Summary


This position, which reports to the Vice President of Government and External Affairs is intended to focus on building and enhancing the Company’s relationship with local, state, and federal elected officials, legislative and executive staff members at various levels, and to inform policymakers about the Company’s position on the issues important to Loews and its subsidiaries. This position includes responsibilities for monitoring and reporting on legislative and regulatory developments at the local, state and federal level on issues that may affect the Company’s businesses, as well as, responsibility for helping develop and execute government affairs strategies and initiatives to achieve the Company’s business objectives.  Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to;

 -        Working directly with outside lobbyists and maintaining a high level of collaboration with internal stakeholders as well as, industry groups, think tanks and industry wide trade associations.
-        Representing the Company at public events including political fundraisers, charitable events and industry conferences.
-        Educating key stakeholders and mobilizing them when necessary to act in support of the Company’s government affairs agenda.
-        Understanding and communicating Loews' position on issues that may affect the Company including, taxation, energy policy, financial services issues, travel and tourism, and labor and environment.
-        Managing and communicating efforts related to the Company’s employee political action committee.
-        Managing all aspects of the compliance with federal lobbying disclosure requirements; coordinate with other Loews subsidiaries as needed.

 Job Requirements

Requires at minimum a bachelor’s degree (Public Affairs/business Administration, Political Science, Public Policy or a closely related field)
Minimum of 4 years full time working experience either federal legislative or executive government, and/or in private sector federal government relations.
 Applicants must have exemplary communications skills with both written and oral communications.
 Applicants must have extraordinary ability to develop relationships with diverse individuals and audiences.
 Budget management experience is required.

Location

This position will work from the company’s Washington, DC based office.
