JOB DESCRIPTION: Position Title: Director of Government Relations
Reports to: COO
Supervises: Manager of Government Relations

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. General Statement of Duties:
Leads the development of the association's legislative and regulatory programs consistent with the priorities of the SIA Government Relations Committee and Board of Directors. Maintains contacts with federal and state legislative and government agencies and like-minded organizations/coalitions on matters of association interest. Works in tandem with other SIA department heads to fulfill the mission of SIA.

II. Government Relations Program Management:
Lead legislative and regulatory policy development with input from the Government Relations Committee and working groups Develop and execute government relations strategies designed to implement SIA public policy priorities Regularly communicate legislative and regulatory developments to association membership Manage Government Relations Manager and outsourced government relations lobbying resources Develop and manage Government Relations programs and budget Respond to requests for media interviews about SIA government relations positions or programs

A. Policy Opportunities
Track and analyze federal and state legislative activities related to security, technology, procurement, and appropriations, and other issues surrounding the electronic physical security industry Recommend best practices, anticipate trends and possible changes in public policy that would have a material effect on the security industry Develop and coordinate with external lobbyists and SIA member company GR representatives, and other appropriate stakeholders regarding advocacy/lobbying for legislative and regulatory issues Supervise the writing of association position papers and statements to Capitol Hill and other government audiences

B. Networking Opportunities
Develop strategic alliances, relationships, and new SIA programs with affiliated organization, elected officials, and other partners as they relate to the security industry Maintain positive working relationships with diverse stakeholders, elected officials, peer organizations, and others as required to perform the tasks associated with the job Network and cultivate Congressional and agency relationships with the association

III. General/Daily Responsibilities:

Facilitate and promote effective, proactive communications
strategies at all levels of SIA Coordinate, maintain and manage all assigned programs and projects within approved budgets

REQUIREMENTS:

Four-year college degree required. A minimum of eight (8) years Capitol Hill and/or Federal Agency experience required. Proven track record of successful lobbying, working effectively within coalitions, and developing public policy that meets clear business objectives. Some familiarity with state legislative processes a plus. Strong organizational, communication and writing skills necessary. Must be a team player, results-oriented, and self-motivated. Attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and budgets very important. Travel required.
