Press Secretary - House Subcommittee chairman seeks press secretary with superior writing skills, energy, and initiative. The successful candidate will be a self starter who is politically astute and can quickly master new issues and situations, and articulate and deliver focused messages. The individual must be able to balance responding to national and trade press with need for a high profile district media engagement. This is a one person operation with responsibility for speeches, releases, statements, and website. Candidates should have at least two years of experience as a press secretary in a government, political or business environment or as a news reporter. Legislative Director – Representative Howard P. “Buck” McKeon seeks Legislative Director. The Legislative Director advises the Member and Chief of Staff on all legislative activities, manages legislative office, and develops legislative initiatives, policy positions, and strategy. This position has a strong emphasis on district projects focused on resources, energy, and transportation, as well as handling other priority issues. In addition, the position makes recommendations on bills and legislative activity, monitors all floor activity, implements Member’s legislative goals, and oversees constituent mail program to ensure constituent mail is answered promptly and accurately. Candidate should have at least 5 years of experience as legislative staff for a Member of Congress, and must have a thorough knowledge of Congressional procedures. Knowledge and understanding of the effect of legislation on the district is critical. The successful candidate will effectively communicate the Members’ positions to district and Washington stakeholders both verbally and in writing. California ties and experience preferred.
