Policy and Advocacy Manager -- Irrigation Association

Job Description: Policy and Advocacy Manager Authority: Reports to the Government and Public Affairs Director Primary Responsibilities:  Research and draft briefings, policies and model legislation on issues that impact the irrigation industry.  Work with the government and public affairs director in executing IA’s federal, state and local legislative and regulatory strategy.  Monitor state and federal legislation and regulations.  Identify and develop volunteer state legislative coordinators, federal and state key contacts, and other volunteer advocates to support IA’s federal, state and local advocacy efforts.  Manage fundraising strategy for IrrigationPAC, the political action committee of the Irrigation Association.  Assist with the planning and implementation of annual fly-ins.  Work with government and public affairs director and other staff in providing information and direction to the IA Government Affairs Committee.  Provide support to the development and advocacy of irrigation standards and codes.  Other duties as assigned by the IA’s government and public affairs director. Skills/Experience Required:  Excellent written and verbal communications as well as organizational skills.  Three to five years of experience in government relations.  Bachelor’s degree required. Other Requirements:  Occasional travel throughout the U.S.  Travel to the Irrigation Show (one week per year, November or December).
