POSITION SUMMARY Work with department senior vice president to develop and execute public-private partnerships with officials at various levels of government. Support network initiatives where government participation is sought. Provide government outreach on various policy issues, particularly federal legislative outreach. RESPONSIBILITES 1. Establish/maintain/grow relationships with appropriate Administration (White House and department/agency) and Capitol Hill staff in order to effectively identify and act on mutually beneficial partnership opportunities. 2. Track major federal, state and local initiatives that parallel high-priority Discovery content/initiatives, research possible opportunities for joint action or partnerships, liaise internally and externally to determine feasibility of partnerships; implement resulting plans. 3. Coordinate with other members of team on partnership opportunities and policy issues as appropriate. 4. Support networks and other departments with government assistance/participation relating to production and/or local or state events as necessary. 5. Monitor/research/provide outreach – particularly regarding Capitol Hill -- with respect to policy issues affecting Discovery. 6. Other duties as assigned by SVP. Desired Skills & Experience REQUIREMENTS * Minimum of 10 years related experience, with increasing levels of responsibility, working with the federal government, particularly executive and legislative branches. * Experience in community outreach and branding initiatives. * Demonstrated ability to develop and implement short- and long-term strategies for fostering partnerships. * Demonstrated ability to cultivate and nurture relationships with government officials. * Strong verbal and written communications skills. * Must be an independent and strategic thinker who is a strong team player. * Must be flexible and willing to adapt to changing circumstances/job demands. * Must be able to garner respect and trust from peers and professional colleagues. * Media-industry background preferred. * Both government and private-sector experience preferred. * Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
