Job Description
Title: Sr. Director, Legislative Affairs
Dept/Location: Legislative Affairs (200220) / DC Office
Reports To: Executive Director, Legislative Affairs
Supervises: Yes
Classification: Exempt
Summary:
The Senior Director of Legislative Affairs works with the Vice President and Executive Director of Legislative Affairs to implement NADA legislative agenda before Congress. The Senior Director is also responsible for developing public policy arguments and legislative strategies in support of NADA's agenda.
Essential Functions:
• Staff leadership role in formulating and implementing policy for NADA's legislative priorities before Congress.
• In conjunction with Vice President and Executive Director, develop and execute legislative strategies to advance NADA's government relations policies and goals.
• Lobby Members of Congress and key staff members, particularly with jurisdiction over assigned issues.
• Analyze proposed legislation and draft briefing and advocacy materials.
• Draft and revise legislation and amendments to protect the rights and interests of automobile dealers.
• Prepare testimony and technical background on pending legislation for congressional committees.
• Coordinate efforts with industry-based coalitions and outreach to potential allies on issues of mutual interest.
• Attend political action committee receptions and fundraisers.
• Conduct original research on issues affecting automotive retailing.
Non-Essential Functions:
• As needed, assist the Vice President and the Executive Director with managerial duties of the Legislative Office.
• Other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's Degree required, Masters Degree or Juris Doctor Degree preferred. Extensive experience (11+ years) in federal legislative process, which may include either senior staff level on Capitol Hill or national trade association. Tax expertise strongly preferred. Executive branch experience is desirable. Excellent advocacy and political skills with strong emphasis on effective verbal and written communication.
