Director, Government Affairs -- Varian Medical Systems

Varian Medical Systems seeks a Director, Government Affairs for its Washington D.C. Government Affairs office. Working as a member of the Varian Government Affairs team, the Director, Government Affairs responsibilities will include representing Varian on Capitol Hill and with relevant stakeholders in the patient and physician communities, as well as industry associations. The Director, Government Affairs will also conduct legislative research related to the state and federal government affairs program of the company, and will have responsibilities related to the Varian Political Action Committee. Candidates must be self- starters who can maintain a fast-pace. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of healthcare policy issues as they relate to the medical device industry, specifically related to Medicare physician payment, health information technology, and cancer care. This position requires a bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience on Capitol Hill or in a federal or state agency, or government relations experience. Excellent written and oral communications skills required. Experience in working with national coalitions is desirable.
