Director of Legislation & Government Affairs -- Association of the United States Navy (AUSN)

DIRECTOR OF LEGISLATION & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS The Association of the United States Navy (AUSN), a 501 (C) – (19) War Veterans non-profit Organization, seeks a Director of Legislation and Government Relations. Veterans are highly encouraged to apply. The individual will be responsible for developing AUSN’s legislative strategy and National Resolutions for the Congressional year for approval at the Annual Meeting. In addition, the individual will maintain close contact with professional staffers and key personnel in Congressional offices to inform and influence legislation as well as liaison with the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs, CHINFO and other Navy offices as necessary to ensure alignment with Navy Objectives. The Director of Legislation and Government Affairs will also represent AUSN at meetings of the Military Coalition (TMC), the National Military Veterans Alliance (NMVA), and the National Veterans Day Committee. When tasked, the Director will also prepare and submit testimony to Congress, prepare and transmit Legislative Updates and Alerts, and prepare regular articles for Navy magazine, AUSN’s publication to its members. The individual will also respond to members’ telephone calls and correspondence (letters, faxes, e-mails) as well as manage a legislative intern program to further the education of those interested in national politics and to further the reach and effectiveness of AUSN. Finally, the Director of Legislation and Government Affairs will work closely with Director, Military and Veterans Benefits, on Legislative strategy, particularly DOD and VA Benefits needing updates or improvements through Congressional action. REQUIREMENTS: A minimum degree in Political Science, Government, U.S. History and/or related degree, and at least 2 years of experience as a Congressional staffer is strongly recommended. A passion for the military, particularly the Navy, is desirable.
