Legislative Coordinator, Federal Policy and Government Relations at Merck

Responsible for coordinating lobbying and outreach activities for the Vice President, Senior Directors and Directors. Coordinator will track legislation, votes, and hearings as well as maintain outreach lists that facilitate effective communication with Congressional and Administration offices. Additionally, coordinator will provide general support for the Merck Employees' Political Action Committee and grassroots programs.

Primary activities include, but are not limited to, :

Tracking legislation, votes and hearings of importance to Merck and its customers Maintaining dynamic contact lists for key congressional and Administration officials and staff (includes the creation of targeted email lists) Assisting lobby staff with preparation of background materials necessary for effective advocacy efforts Tracking outreach efforts to identify trends and evaluate opportunities to disseminate helpful information to customers Working closely with lobby staff to identify additional opportunities, methodologies and tactics to improve efficiency of outreach efforts and coordination Assist lobby staff with strategic plan development and Global Public Policy & Corporate Responsibility scorecard initiatives Assist in the planning and logistics for the DC Office Legislative Briefing and employee "fly-ins"

Provide assistance on the PAC membership campaign and grassroots outreach as needed Attend and report on selected external meetings (e.g. health care conferences, congressional caucus events, trade association meetings)

Qualifications

Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree required

Required:

At least 2 years experience working with or on Capitol Hill including knowledge of congressional committee process

Preferred:

Ability to initiate and complete advanced internet searches Demonstrated work experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint Patience, attention to details, and ability to work collaboratively
