The National Board has an immediate opening for a Director of Government Relations. The job advertisement follows:

Director, Government Relations

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), a non-profit organization in Arlington, VA committed to the advancement of quality teaching and learning, is seeking a Director, Government Relations, to manage federal education policy and grass roots lobbying activities. The Director also works with State and Local Outreach staff, Congress, the U.S. Department of Education and education policy
organizations to increase the public visibility and credibility of NBPTS within the education policy community. The Director is responsible for expanding the reach of government relations by conceptualizing and implementing the grass roots capability for federal legislative activity.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about the current reforms that are under consideration in American education, the context within which such proposals have developed, and the implications of the reforms;

possess excellent written and verbal skills including the ability to produce quality written materials; strong organizational skills and the ability to function within a fast-paced environment and manage multiple
projects within established deadlines; ability to work independently and have strong decision making capability; and, a minimum BS or BA degree, graduate degree preferred. Minimum six to seven years Capitol Hill experience or related lobbying experience is preferred.
