DJJ brokers ferrous scrap, pig iron, HBI/DRI, and nonferrous metal scrap. We provide mill industrial logistics and rail services for steelmakers. DJJ is creating a new position in the corporate headquarters for a Manager of Government Relations. This role will report to the Senior Vice President & General Counsel and will serve as the primary advocate for the David J. Joseph Family of Companies in federal, state and local government relations.

Description of Duties:

• Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive government relations program, that includes federal, state, and local government relations priorities
• Monitor and provide advice on federal and state legislation and regulation that could impact DJJ
• Work with senior management to increase DJJ’s visibility with federal, state, and local elected officials, regulatory agencies, and their staff
• Organize, collaborate with and participate with lobbying teams to advance legislative and regulatory objectives and protect company's interests from adverse public policy.
• Participate and represent company in various trade associations such as ISRI, ARA, and other manufacturing and recycling organizations.
• Develop industry-wide coalitions and manage significant projects on key issues
• Assist subsidiary government relations teams in developing local programs and relationships
• Travel to key state capitals and cities where facilities are located.
• Other job-related duties as assigned
Desired Skills & Experience
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• A minimum of 5 years of government affairs experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to persuasively speak before large groups.
• Strong leadership, analytical and negotiating skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships internally and externally.
• Self-starter with the ability to organize and implement several concurrent projects and exercise sound judgment in prioritizing.
• Willing and able to travel an average of 30% of the time.
