I am please to announce that after a successful first month, Red Alert Politics is looking to celebrate the anniversary of our first month on the market by taking our new publication to the next level. We are looking to hire a number of part time contractors to help us with a number of tasks at our rapidly expanding publication.
Applicants do not necessarily live in DC, though that would be preferable. Days and number of hours are also flexible. Also, if you or someone you know is looking for something short term while you look for a full time job in journalism, this may also be a great option for you. We're all about helping young writers and activists get their start nationally, so I want to be as flexible as possible.

Assistant to the Editor
Seeking an individual who is interested in learning more about what it's like to run a news publication and who doesn't mind doing administrative tasks. Responsibilities will include drafting emails, helping monitor breaking news, completing research and data entry projects, managing Red Alert Politics' internal calendar and schedule and helping Red Alert Politics' editor with other tasks as they come along. Number of hours:10-15 hours a week; Times: Negotiable - weekends, evenings and during the day are all on the table; Location: Doesn't need to live in DC, but that is preferable.Pay: Negotiable based on experience. Experience: No media experience necessary, just looking for a reliable assistant with good recommendations. Application requirements: A resume, three references and a cover letter. Copy Editor
Seeking an individual who has copy editing experience and is familiar with AP style to copy edit article for Red Alert Politics. Responsibilities will include copy-editing for spelling and grammar errors and eventually for style. Number of hours:10-15 hours a week; Times: Negotiable - weekends, evenings and during the day are all on the table but half of the hours MUST be week day hours during normal business hours; Location: Doesn't need to live in DC, but that is preferable. Pay: Negotiable based on experience. Experience: Previous AP style editing experience; college newspaper editing experience is acceptable. Application requirements: A resume, a cover letter, three references and 3 times the applicant is available in the next week for an editing test. Breaking News Reporter
Seeking an individual who has an eye for breaking news is and gets an adrenaline rush from covering it. Individual does not need to have former reporting experience for a news out, just writing experience. Experience writing for a personal blog is perfectly acceptable. Responsibilities will include monitoring the news and writing breaking news and other assigned articles at the request of Red Alert's editor. Number of hours:15-20 hours a week; Times: Negotiable - weekends, evenings and during the day are all on the table but half of the hours MUST be week day hours during normal business hours; Location: Doesn't need to live in DC, but that is preferable. More important for this position that any other. Pay: Negotiable based on experience. Experience: Previous AP style writing is experience is helpful, but not required; previous professional reporting experience is beneficial but not required; must be willing and able to write in the style of Red Alert Politics - articles must be geared toward a younger demographic. Assistant Social Media Manager
Seeking an individual who has a gift for social media. Individual does not formal social media management experience. Experience managing their own social media feed is acceptable. Must be able to put complex topics into tweets and facebook posts. Individual must have a sense of humor and the ability to write snarky tweets, particularly directed at the Democrats. Responsibilities will include monitoring the news and helping Red Alert Politics' Social Media Manager and Social Media intern manage Red Alert's facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr and twitter presences. Of particular importance will be helping manage Red Alert's twitter presence. Number of hours:10-15 hours a week; Times: Negotiable - must be available to work during Red Alert's peak twitter hours on their assigned days (9am -12pm on weekdays and on Sundays) (noon to 3 on Saturdays); Days are negotiable. Location: Doesn't need to live in DC, not really a factor. More important for this position that any other. Pay: Negotiable based on experience. Experience: Success managing a personal or organizational twitter or tumblr; must be willing and able to write in the style of Red Alert Politics - tweets must be geared toward a younger demographic. Application requirements: A resume, a minimum of 500 twitter followers, a list of their top 10 favorite conservatives to follow on twitter and why and a list or screen shot of 5 of their BEST recent tweets. Best is subjective - looking for creativity, political knowledge or both.
