Team Overview
The Alumni Affairs team works to:
Support each region to fuel local movements to ensure educational excellence for all children with the diverse leadership of alumni
Strengthen the nation-wide network of diverse leaders committed to educational excellence and equity
Inspire all alumni to continue to engage deeply in our client's mission and to advance the organization’s work
Responsibilities
Establish a breakthrough vision and direction for regional support and invest regional leadership deeply in this vision in order to realize dramatically different outcomes
Develop a theory of impact about alumni leadership and engagement that regional leaders can easily access and leverage as they build out their visions and plans for fueling local movements with the leadership of the organization's alumni
Build strong relationships with regional leadership and operate with a strong service orientation toward regional staff
Manage a team to assist each region in designing and executing bold visions for alumni impact
Oversee professional development for regional alumni staff
Manage the development and use of infrastructure and technology systems for alumni data and communication
Analyze and synthesize a broad set of quantitative and qualitative information to identify key problems and opportunities and craft impactful strategies

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Our client is seeking a Senior Managing Director of Strategy and Operations to maximize the potential of its 20,000 and growing alumni base as a force for change by ensuring that the national alumni team is setting a strong vision and direction, rooted in a well-considered research agenda. The Senior Managing Director of Strategy and Operations will evaluate the impact of current strategies and generate and test new hypotheses to expand the organization’s impact over time. This position will improve technology and reporting infrastructure to improve the ability to measure the impact of strategies and investments. It will also design and execute learning and development experiences for staff that build upon the insights from research and align with overall strategy.
The Senior Managing Director will support the VP, Alumni Affairs in developing and executing team management strategy and design administrative operations of the Alumni Team so that it can more efficiently achieve its mission. The Senior Managing Director will serve on the Senior Management Team of the Alumni Affairs Team and will collaborate closely with other senior Alumni Team leaders and directly manage a team of approximately six composed of an assistant, associate, director, two managing directors and a senior managing director. The Senior Managing Director will report directly to the Vice President, Alumni Affairs.
Responsibilities:
Assess key questions and establish comprehensive strategic research agenda for both short and long-term priorities
Set strategy and manage process for key national Alumni Team priorities including goal setting, team conferences and strategic planning
Oversee the needs assessment and resulting learning and development plans for national and regional Alumni Team members
Manage one full-time assistant responsible for providing administrative support to the SMD and VP, Alumni Affairs and managing special projects that help achieve maximum efficiency in team operations
Supervise technology and infrastructure planning to ensure Alumni Team needs are met
Develop operations, including managing creation of agendas and supporting materials for Alumni Team leadership and full-team conferences
Manage budgeting, forecasting and planning
Develop strong cross-functional systems to improve knowledge sharing across the team

Senior Midwestern Democrat seeks a motivated, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented intern for the fall of 2011. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are interested in learning about the workings of Capitol Hill and the legislative process in a busy office.
The internship will provide exposure to all areas of a legislative office. Responsibilities include: drafting press releases, weekly columns, and other writing projects as needed; researching, writing and editing responses to constituent letters and requests; attending hearings and briefings in specific legislative areas; and a variety of administrative tasks, including data-entry of constituent letters and front office duties.
