Job Description
The Director of Development is an essential member of the Office of the President, and a key participant in the NatureServe Executive Team. The Director of Development leads the growth and implementation of NatureServe’s overall philanthropic strategy, guides donor cultivation priorities, and assists the CEO and other senior staff in developing high-level donor relationships consistent with the organization’s Strategic Plan. A particular focus will be expanding private and philanthropic support for the organization’s activities both domestically and internationally to at least $5M per year.
The Director of Development works closely and collaboratively with other members of the Executive Team, developing a thorough knowledge of NatureServe’s products and services so that s/he can secure donations supporting mission critical activities. The Director of Development and the Director of Marketing and Communications work as a team with the CEO to identify key external audiences and develop messages for each audience.
The Director of Development supervises a fundraising assistant and provides leadership as needed to cross-divisional teams.
Desired Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in communications or marketing, and five years of related work experience or 10 years of equivalent experience—including at least 2 years at a supervisory and management level. The candidate must have a proven track record in fundraising for non-profit organizations.
