Position Description

RAND is seeking a pro-active legislative analyst to work primarily on health policy issues as a critical member of RAND’s Office of Congressional Relations team. The individual will develop and execute strategies for expanding awareness, understanding, and use of RAND research by policymakers and staff on Capitol Hill. Theposition supports RAND Health, the largest of RAND’s domestic units, as well as the RAND Institute for Civil Justice.

Specific responsibilities:

You will design and implement strategic outreach to promote the awareness and use of RAND’s research and expertise by Senators, Representatives, and their personal office and committee staff. At the same time, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to expand and strengthen RAND’s network of legislative contacts on Capitol Hill.

Congressional outreach will include tracking legislation and regulations in your issue area, targeted dissemination of RAND research via the creation of Congressional staff/Member meetings with and briefings by RAND researchers, creation of strategic Congressional e-email newsletters highlighting RAND research on currently debated policy issues, targeted distribution of RAND studies to Hill Committees and staff, and active cultivation of opportunities for RAND researchers to deliver testimony.

As a member of RAND’s Congressional Relations team, you will work together on and coordinate joint outreach initiatives in collaborationwith your fellow congressional legislative analysts as well as communications professionals across the Office of External Affairs.

Qualifications:

3 years related experience, including service as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill, with health policy experience strongly preferred. A Bachelor’s degree is required, (and an advanced degree is preferred). Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and good PC or Mac-based computer abilities are necessary.

OVERVIEW

The Membership Director is responsible for the overalldevelopment and administration of membership programs, services and benefits with the goal of retaining and increasing membership. The successful applicant will have a thorough understanding of the policy and programs of National Farmers Union.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

· Develop and implement an annual membership strategic plan to help increase membership.
· Assist with the development of new state or regional organizations.
· Assist state organizations with membership program development, strategic planning and leadership/board of director orientation and training.
· Provide oversight and administration of membership programs.
· Develop and implement new membership services and benefits.
· Seek, coordinate and provide guidance in obtaining affiliation memberships with state and national organizations.
· Conduct monthly conference calls with state membership directors and/or state presidents.
· Provide requested leadership training to state organization governance, management and staff.
· Deliver relevant membership presentations, addresses and seminars at state and national conventions and other functions.
· Assess member benefits and research and recommend additional benefits that complement the organization.
· Manage the budget and employees of the Membership Department.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related discipline or combination of college level coursework plus related work experience. Must be computer proficient. Marketing experience a plus. Membership development experience preferred. Supervisory/management experience preferred for Vice President level appointment.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Bonner Group, a progressive non-profit and Democratic political fundraising firm, is seeking a self-motivated, organized and enthusiastic individual to join the team as a Development Assistant.
