Legislative Assistant - Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18) seeks a legislative assistant to handle a variety of issues and monitor developments throughout the legislative process. Candidates must have Hill experience, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and bring a high degree of professionalism to our very busy office. This position requires that the individual closely monitor issues, engage with constituents via phone and written correspondence, write floor speeches, co-sponsorship memos, floor memos/vote recommendations, and other policy-related documents. The position also requires staffing the Congressman, extensive meetings and communications with constituents and constituent groups on behalf of the Member and office. The ideal candidate will have a thorough working knowledge of the legislative process, Member office organization, and possess superior writing and analytical skills. Applicants must have a minimum of two years personal or committee office legislative experience. Sense of humor and positive attitude a huge plus on our team. Legislative Assistant - Congressman Steve Scalise seeks an experienced legislative assistant to handle work on the Energy and Commerce Committee, including the Communications and Technology subcommittee, as well as commerce and manufacturing issues. The position will also cover transportation, maritime, and science and technology issues. An ideal candidate must have at least 1-2 years of legislative experience handling committee issues (preferably telecommunications) or working as a professional staff member for a committee, a strong knowledge of the legislative process, excellent communication and analytical skills, the ability to be a team player, and a demonstrated ability to work with other offices and committee staff to advance the member’s agenda. The candidate will be responsible for developing legislative initiatives, tracking legislation and committee developments, drafting floor and committee statements, and working with key industry stakeholders and state and local officials. Interns - Freshman Representative is currently seeking spring interns to participate in a MARCH 14-JUNE 1 internship program. Responsibilities will mostly include, but are not limited to: greeting guests, answering phones, giving Capitol tours, and performing administrative tasks. Paid Internship – Congressman Steve King is looking to fill an IMMEDIATE opening for a PAID internship position in his Washington, DC. The internship will end in May 2009. Applicants should be committed, pro-life conservatives with strong writing skills. Ideal candidates will also be personable self-starters able to multi-task and work well under pressure. Iowa ties are a plus. Duties include answering phones, sorting mail, leading capitol tours, drafting constituent mail, and helping legislative staff with research and writing projects. This unpaid internship offers great exposure to the inner workings of a Capitol Hill office. Ties to southwest Virginia are preferred, but not required.
