Deputy Press Secretary – Conservative Republican Member seeks a Deputy Press Secretary with strong writing skills to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include drafting press releases, op-eds, talking points, and/or columns; updating and improving the website; maintaining an active social media presence; and some interview booking. Legislative Assistant—The Office of Congressman Scott DesJarlais is accepting applications for a Legislative Assistant. Portfolio will include one committee assignment and other issues. Successful applicants will have 1-2 years of entry-level legislative experience on Capitol Hill. Duties will include but are not limited to drafting Floor statements, developing amendments and legislative initiatives, and promoting the Congressman’s agenda in the committee. Ideal candidates must be highly motivated and detail-oriented self-starters, and should possess conservative values, excellent writing skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Interns—The Office of Congressman Scott DesJarlais (TN-04) has immediate openings for internships available for the spring of 2011 in his Washington, DC office. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) answering telephones and greeting visitors, sorting mail, leading Capitol tours, researching legislative issues, attending briefings and hearings, and assisting staff with various projects. Ideal candidates must be highly motivated and detail-oriented self-starters, and should possess conservative values, excellent organizational and communication skills, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. This is a great opportunity for college students and recent graduates seeking Capitol Hill experience. Tennessee ties are preferred, but not required. These internships are unpaid; weekly hours are negotiable. Press Intern—The Office of Congressman Scott DesJarlais (TN-04) has an immediate opening for a press intern in his Washington, DC office. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) assisting the Communications Director by drafting press releases, statements, newsletters, and website content. The Press Intern will also work on social media outreach projects, conduct general research on various legislative issues, attend media and messaging related briefings, and handle other basic administrative responsibilities. Ideal candidates must be conservative, outgoing, and proactive, and should possess excellent writing and communication skills as well as a particular interest in the field of communication. Intern - Congressman Bill Posey (R-FL) has a full-time, unpaid internship available asap for the rest of the Spring session in his Washington, DC office. Particular duties include but are not limited to answering telephones, greeting visitors, and extensive work with our mail database system. There will also be opportunities to experience Washington DC and cultivate your interest in American government by attending briefings, hearings, and classes. Qualified candidates should possess excellent organizational and communication skills, should have a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic. Although internships are unpaid, our office is happy to fill out any necessary forms for students to receive credit at their respective college or university. Interns - The office of Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.) is currently seeking full-time summer interns in the Washington, D.C. office. Responsibilities include conducting tours of the Capitol, answering the telephones, organizing and inputting constituent correspondence, and aiding legislative staff on special projects. Interns are also given the opportunity to attend hearings and briefings to enhance their experience on Capitol Hill. Successful candidates will be highly motivated, detail oriented, and able to multi-task. This is an unpaid internship that, dependant upon your institution, may be eligible for college credit. Interns - The office of Congressman Randy Hultgren (IL-14) is IMMEDIATELY seeking full-time and part-time interns for the remainder of the 2011 spring term (March-May) in Washington, D.C. Responsibilities include answering phones, organizing, distributing, and inputting mail, providing tours of the Capitol, and assisting legislative staff in research and writing projects. Internship - Congressman Michele Bachmann’s (MN-6) Washington D.C. Office is looking for interns for the Summer of 2011. Dates would range from May 1st-September 1st but can be divided up based on schedules, with an eight week commitment minimum. The ideal candidate will have an interest in politics/government and possess the following skills: good phone etiquette, detail-oriented, friendly, motivated, excellent research and writing skills and the ability to multi-task. Main duties include daily front desk operations (answering phones, greeting visitors, assisting in constituent correspondence), attending committee hearings, leading tours, as well as working directly with the Communications and Legislative Teams on various projects. The internship is unpaid but offers a great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of Capitol Hill.
