Press Secretary - Republican Member seeks a Press Secretary with strong writing background and a team player attitude. Responsibilities include drafting/distributing press releases; writing op-eds and/or letters to the editor; monthly e-newsletter; updating and improving the website; booking interviews and pitching stories; establishing and maintaining strong relations with local and national media; and preparation of talking points and speeches. Also, the candidate should have knowledge of video, audio and/or photography and editing in those medium. Preferred candidates should have knowledge of Congressional legislative process, proficiency with new media, on the record experience, and ability to identify press opportunities. Legislative Assistant – Congressman Lamar Smith (TX-21) is seeking an experienced health care legislative assistant to handle a broad portfolio which would also include taxes, budget, financial services and several other issues. Communications-Judiciary Intern - Republican Congressman Randy Forbes (VA-04) is seeking an unpaid full-time intern to handle a specialized portfolio of work that combines communications and judiciary responsibilities. The intern will work with the Communications Director to develop micro-targeted e-newsletters, draft blog posts, and prepare content for social media sites. The intern will also work with the Legislative Counsel to prepare for Judiciary Committee hearings and markups, conduct research, and answer constituent correspondence. Applicants should have strong interest or educational background in public relations and governmental affairs or political science. Outstanding analytical and written communications skills are required. This internship has the opportunity to turn into a temporary full-time staff position while two staff members are out on maternity leave. Internship – Republican Francisco "Quico" Canseco (TX-23) has an immediate opening for an internship for the spring semester in his Washington DC office. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, answering phones, giving Capitol tours, performing administrative tasks, sorting mail and assisting legislative staff. Interns - Congressman Reid Ribble is looking for spring interns in his Washington DC office. Candidates should be a self-starter with a strong interest in government/politics. Interns will assist the congressional staff with the day-to-day operations within a Congressional office, attend congressional hearings, as well as assist the communications and legislative staff with various projects. Typical applicant should be a junior or senior in college with strong-writing skills. The internship is unpaid, but college credit can be provided where applicable. Intern – Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference, is seeking an intern to assist the Communications team. The intern will work closely with the Press Secretary on many tasks, including press outreach; list building; event planning; and editing press releases, talking points, op-eds and speeches. Since the Congresswoman is passionate about using New Media, the intern would also work with the New Media Director to creatively use Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to promote the Congresswoman online. The qualified candidate should have an interest in politics and a desire to assist with developing an effective communications strategy for the people of Washington’s Fifth District. Intern - Congresswoman Sandy Adams (R-FL) is currently seeking an unpaid intern to start immediately in Washington, DC. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to answering telephones, greeting visitors, flag requests, conducting tours of the Capitol, sorting mail and working with our mail database system. Qualified candidates should possess excellent organizational and communication skills, should have a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic. Florida ties are preferred but not necessary.
