A Stipend Volunteer is sought for CASA de Maryland through the Chesapeake Bay
Trust’s Chesapeake Conservation Corps



CASA de Maryland is excited to participate in the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s new
Chesapeake Conservation Corps, in which an opportunity exists for a
stipended Volunteer to spend a one-year term of service working on green job
and energy saving initiatives for low-income immigrants. The volunteer will
be part of a dynamic, multi-lingual and mutli-cultural team at CASA de
Maryland, the state’s largest service and advocacy organization, with more
than 8,000 members, 120 employees working at seven sites throughout
Maryland. The Volunteer will spend one year at CASA de Maryland, and
participate in activities with the full Corps. The position can be based
at a CASA center in Baltimore, Langley Park, Silver Spring or Wheaton.



The purpose of the Corps is 1) to enable stipend volunteers to work with
host organizations and communities throughout Maryland to implement
on-the-ground restoration and energy conservation projects, and 2) to
provide leadership and training opportunities for young adults pursuing
environmental and conservation careers.





*Description of Activities*

· Research local employers with an interest in green techniques,
focusing on the landscaping, residential and commercial construction
industries.

· Investigate green certifications and present recommendations on how
CASA members can obtain these certifications.

· Mediate between workers and employers to ensure green practices:
e.g. to eliminate-waste, recycling, reducing toxic hazards.

· Explore and present recommendations on retrofitting and
weatherization and how CASA members can be better prepared for these jobs.

· Work with the CASA Member Services program to identify and connect
CASA members with weatherization and retrofitting programs to improve the
energy efficiency in members' apartments and homes.

· Collaborate with CASA partner Prince George’s Community College to
incorporate green techniques into existing vocational trainings, such as
construction training.

· Teach modules on green techniques in above-mentioned trainings.

· Create and provide educational sessions on green techniques.

· Provide support as needed to employment and vocational training
programs.
