Professional Staff Member – House Armed Services Committee seeks a Professional Staff Member. Responsibilities include management of a portfolio of issues, including regional issues associated with certain geographic commandant commands (and U.S. military policy relating to the countries within the associated command), non-proliferation and cooperative threat reduction, NATO/foreign nation matters, counternarcotics, and building partnership capacity; assisting with the preparation of the National Defense Authorization Act; and supporting Members of the Full Committee in the conduct of oversight of the Department of Defense. Candidate must have a working knowledge of the Pentagon, military services, and regional expertise regarding one or more of the U.S. Combatant Commands). Military ties and experience interfacing with Members of Congress preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are required. Rep. Frank Wolf is seeking applicants for the position of Legislative Director. His current LD is retiring after 30 years on his staff. Candidates must have at least 5 years of experience as a senior staffer on Capitol Hill and a thorough knowledge of the legislative process. Strong writing and editing skills are a must, as is ability to write under deadline. Background in journalism would be a plus.
