Staff Assistant/Legislative Correspondent - Texas Republican Member of Congress seeks a staff assistant/legislative correspondent (dual position). Responsibilities include managing all constituent correspondence, including greeting visitors in the front office. Daily tasks include writing letters, researching legislation, answering telephones, organizing tours, processing flag requests, assisting a busy legislative and communications staff, and serving as intern coordinator. Internship - Representative Raúl Labrador (ID-01) is currently seeking unpaid fall interns (September – December). Responsibilities will include giving Capitol tours, attending and summarizing hearings and/or briefings for legislative staff, and performing various administrative tasks. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Idaho ties are preferred, but are not required. During your time with our office, you will be given the opportunity to develop leadership, management, and policy experience. Duties include answering phones and mail, conducting tours of the U.S. Capitol, and assisting staff members and Congressman Jordan with achieving our legislative goals and constituent outreach. You will be challenged and will be given practical tools for career and academic success. Communications Director – Dynamic, pro-active freshman Republican seeks an experienced Communications Director to develop and oversee all aspects of an integrated press and new media strategy, in order to drive the Congressman’s legislative agenda and in-district messaging. A successful candidate must possess excellent written and oral communications skills, political acumen and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with an emphasis on delivering earned media in the district. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: drafting/distributing press releases; writing/overseeing a weekly op-ed; letters to the editor as needed; implementing an aggressive 499 plan; regularly updating and improving the website; preparing talking points and speeches; and establishing and maintaining strong relations with a wide variety of local media in a largely rural district. New and social media skills are a must, including knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, video, audio and/or photography and editing in those mediums. Candidates must have at least 2 years of press experience on Capitol Hill. Being a team player, energetic, pro-active, and having a can-do attitude is essential.
