ABOUT THE POSITION:
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer will be responsible for enhancing the organization’s operational structures, leading ongoing organizational operations, and hiring and managing key staff. Primary Responsibilities:
· Work closely with the CEO to achieve LAP’s goals and objectives, serving as a thought partner and organizational leader;

· Plan for and manage the organization’s overall growth strategy, including potential new school site selections and relevant applications to LAUSD, implementation of metrics-based approach to organizational, school and teacher performance measurement

· Establish and maintain effective measurement systems for tracking staff performance and progress toward goals;

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates should possess the following:
· Bachelor's degree required; MBA or Master’s Degree in related field preferred
· 10+ years of work experience with an emphasis on organizational infrastructure management
· Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to attract, develop and inspire a team

2011 Fall Work-Family Advocacy Internship


The 2011 fall Work-Family Advocacy Intern will work on challenging
projects across the National Partnership's work-family agenda,
including paid sick days, paid family leave, workplace flexibility,
and more. At the National Partnership, interns are integrally involved
in our day-to-day work, and undertake a wide range of activities.
Activities will help interns develop skills needed for work in the
policy and advocacy world, including legislative and policy research,
analysis, writing for a variety of audiences, and coalition-building.

Congressional Internships

The Office of Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (D-MD) is seeking qualified interns for the upcoming Summer semester to serve in the Washington, D.C. office and District Offices. The Outreach Intern supports the team with a variety of outreach projects and activities, including event planning, and advocacy communications. S/he must monitor local and national media through print, online/blog and television news media. The Washington, DC office of the Council of State Governments (CSG) seeks interns for the Fall 2011 semester. The intern will work closely with the Washington staff on legislative and regulatory matters affecting elected or appointed state government officials. The intern will monitor federal legislation on a wide variety of issues of importance to governors, legislators, and other state government officials, as well as members of state government associations. Duties will include, but are not limited to, attending and reporting on congressional hearings and mark-ups, providing periodical and on-line research reports on various issues, drafting letters and memos, responding to member information requests, assisting with the development of legislative conference agendas and legislative newsletters, as well as an equal share of clerical duties. This is also an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with numerous state associations which fall under the umbrella of CSG, such as the National Emergency Management Association, National Association of State Treasurers and the State International Development Officials.

2011 Fall Work-Family & Workplace Fairness Policy Internship


The Work/Family and Fairness team at the National Partnership for
Women & Families is looking for a 2011 Fall Work-Family and Workplace
Fairness Policy Intern to help with our fast-paced growing campaigns
to improve workplaces for workers and their families. The intern will
conduct research and work on policy papers and fact sheets, attend
briefings, create presentations and provide general support to the
Partnership's Work-Family and Workplace Fairness teams. Our Work-
Family priorities include paid sick days, paid family and medical
leave, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) enhancement, workplace
flexibility. Our Workplace Fairness Priorities include equal pay,
employment discrimination, and FMLA enforcement.


Qualifications include strong interpersonal, writing, and computer
skills; the ability to manage multiple tasks and take initiative;
ability to work independently and a significant degree of
organization. Quantitative analysis skills are particularly desirable.
Knowledge of Microsoft Access a plus. Preference will be given to
applicants with experience and demonstrated interest or academic
studies in political science, public policy and/or women’s issues.
Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply.
