Legislative Counsel - Representative Mick Mulvaney (SC-05) seeks a Legislative Counsel to manage a portfolio of policy issues. Primary responsibilities include preparing Member for committee hearings/briefings/mark-ups and floor activities, developing and managing legislative initiatives, analyzing legislation, and representing the Member in meetings with interested parties. Candidate must have good judgment, be willing to work long hours in a fast-paced environment, and possess excellent communication and analytical skills. Internships - Freshman Republican Illinois Congressman Bobby Schilling (IL-17) has Fall 2011 openings in his Washington, D.C. office for unpaid interns wishing to gain experience on Capitol Hill. Day to day responsibilities include answering constituent correspondence, leading tours of the U.S. Capitol, answering phones, conducting legislative research, and assisting with press activities. The ideal candidate will be a college student or recent graduate who is motivated; is detail-orientated; possesses strong organizational, communication and writing skills; has a positive attitude; and has ability to manage multiple tasks and work well under pressure and in a team environment. Internship - A Southern California conservative Republican is currently seeking applications for an unpaid internship position in fall 2011. Duties include providing basic assistance to the staff by opening and directing mail, answering and directing telephone inquiries and running errands. Interns are also encouraged to participate in the legislative process by attending Congressional Research Service classes and legislative briefings, doing research, writing letter drafts, leading tours of the Capitol and assisting with constituent services. Qualified applicants should posses a professional and courteous demeanor, interpersonal communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and interest in the legislative and governmental process. This is a great opportunity for college students and graduates seeking Capitol Hill experience. California ties preferred, but not necessary.
