Senior Democratic Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-27) seeks highly motivated, full-time Interns for fall 2011, with a start date of early August or September. Interns are responsible for both administrative and legislative duties. Administrative tasks include answering phones, greeting visitors, sorting mail, and drafting constituent correspondence. Legislative support includes prepping materials for hearings, attending hearings and briefings, reaching out to agencies and congressional offices, and researching legislation for the Member and legislative Staff. Candidates should be professional, possess strong oral and written communication skills, have the ability to multitask, and have a good sense of humor. Fall Internship in Governor Patrick’s DC Office

Office Description: The Washington D.C. Office of Federal-State Relations for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts advocates and lobbies for state interests and monitors federal actions that could impact the Commonwealth. The office is the primary intermediary between state officials and the Massachusetts Congressional delegation. The office also serves as a liaison between the state and federal governments. Finally, the office interacts with similar offices representing Governors from other states, working through organizations such as the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Coalition of Northeast Governors (CONEG) to advance state interests.



Candidate Criteria: Interns' responsibilities include conducting research, preparing briefing books, attending meetings of the NGA, hearings and briefings on Capitol Hill, and other administrative tasks. Interns are expected to have strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills. They must be able to work well under pressure and balance multiple tasks effectively. Most importantly, interns must have a healthy work ethic and be energetic, independent, and unafraid to take initiative. All internships are unpaid. While full-time interns are preferred, part-time interns will also be considered. Massachusetts ties preferred.

These positions, both full-time and part-time, begin right away and continue through August. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting in office administration, event planning, scheduling, and program execution. Interns will possess a professional demeanor, the ability to multi-task, and a high level of efficiency. Interns should be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week. Excellent verbal and written communications skills required. Must have basic computer and word processing skills (Windows, MS Office, including Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Access).
