Grassroots Congressional Visit Coordinator for Rail Trade Association (Capitol Hill, Washington DC)

The position available is the Membership Grassroots Coordinator for the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC).

The NRC is a trade association of rail construction and maintenance contractors and suppliers. See www.nrcma.org for more details.

Tasks:
‐ Coordinate visits by Congressmen/Senators/Governors/etc to NRC member facilities and work sites, including working with host company, Congressional staff contacts, and local media
‐ Write stories highlighting NRC members for rail industry trade magazines and also the bi-weekly NRC bulletin, especially stories tied into Congressional visits noted above
‐ Coordinate expanded awards for NRC members (Project of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, etc)
‐ Use resulting positive publicity to demonstrate importance of rail construction and maintenance industry to local and national economy and to encourage additional companies to join the NRC (strengthening NRC lobbying voice, creating more dues and conference revenue to support position, etc)

The primary responsibility of this new position will be organizing and attending events in the field as described above. In addition and as available, the staff person would also assist existing NRC staff in performance of existing duties as the NRC continues to grow, including:
‐ Management and organization of annual Conference (conference promotion, registration, trade show, on‐site staffing, etc)
‐ Implementation of the government affairs agenda (development of industry information, coordinating CapWiz grassroots communication, participating in government‐industry events, etc)
‐ Management and execution of day‐to‐day business affairs of the association (membership databases, website, dues, Committees, marketing and membership development, etc)
‐ Coordination and management of NRC safety activities (Railroad Safety Advisory Committee participation, developing and distributing safety materials, staffing of NRC Safety Committee, etc)

The NRC is managed through a rail-focused government affairs and lobbying firm, representing freight railroads and passenger rail transit agencies. The employee would technically be an employee of this firm, and would also eventually have the opportunity to work on other client issues.

Bachelor's degree required. Experience should include Capitol Hill work on transportation issues, campaign or field event organizing experience, or experience with a transportation-related trade association.

Initial annual salary range of $40,000 to $50,000 based on experience, in addition to health care benefits, paid vacation, sick leave, commuter benefits, and 401(k) benefits. 45-50 hours per week expected, occasionally more. Frequent travel required (at least 2-3 days per month out of town). Office located on Capitol Hill, walking distance from Union Station. Starting date in September or October 2011, can be negotiated.
