Fall Internship in Governor Patrick’s DC Office

Office Description: The Washington D.C. Office of Federal-State Relations for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts advocates and lobbies for state interests and monitors federal actions that could impact the Commonwealth. The office is the primary intermediary between state officials and the Massachusetts Congressional delegation. The office also serves as a liaison between the state and federal governments. Finally, the office interacts with similar offices representing Governors from other states, working through organizations such as the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Coalition of Northeast Governors (CONEG) to advance state interests.



Candidate Criteria: Interns' responsibilities include conducting research, preparing briefing books, attending meetings of the NGA, hearings and briefings on Capitol Hill, and other administrative tasks. Interns are expected to have strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills. They must be able to work well under pressure and balance multiple tasks effectively. Most importantly, interns must have a healthy work ethic and be energetic, independent, and unafraid to take initiative. All internships are unpaid. JOB OPENING: A unique opportunity to lay the foundation for a permanent coordinated roundtable in Arizona with organizations committed to a creating a measurable impact through civic engagement and issue organizing in Latino communities.

One Arizona’s Mission: One Arizona is a 501(c)(3) Civic Engagement Table dedicated to building the political power necessary to ensure that decision makers in our community reflect the values of the table’s member organizations. Our aim is to engage Arizona Latinos in the democratic process, develop new leadership from within these constituencies, and establish a long-term model and infrastructure to increase voter participation and civic involvement. This goal will be achieved primarily through coordination of nonprofits focused on civic participation for the 2011 municipal elections in Phoenix and Tucson and the 2012 federal and statewide elections.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Table Development
Ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors, cultivate new donors;
Participate in developing campaign materials, statements, and brochures;
Identify, cultivate, and maintain working relationships and serve as liaison to allies, unions, foundations, corporations, and individual donors;

· Plan for and manage the organization’s overall growth strategy, including potential new school site selections and relevant applications to LAUSD, implementation of metrics-based approach to organizational, school and teacher performance measurement

The 2011 fall Work-Family Advocacy Intern will work on challenging
projects across the National Partnership's work-family agenda,

The Work/Family and Fairness team at the National Partnership for

Fairness Policy Intern to help with our fast-paced growing campaigns

briefings, create presentations and provide general support to the

The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago’s Government Affairs office seeks an Sophomore/Junior/Senior undergraduate student for a 2011 Fall internship in its Washington DC Government Affairs office. Receiving more than $330 million in government funds, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago supports a network of more than 120 health and human services agencies serving more than 300,000 Chicagoans of all faiths and hundreds of thousands more in 59 countries around the world.

Prior exposure to government relations, non-profits, and domestic policy would be helpful. The selected candidate will gain exposure to Capitol Hill and the Administration, develop an understanding of a variety of domestic social policy issues, and a first-hand look inside the Jewish communal world.

The candidate should have excellent writing and research skills, be able to juggle multiple projects at once, and have a solid foundation in Microsoft Office. Specific responsibilities during the internship will include:

· Attend and/or watch congressional hearings and provide notes to Government Affairs staff
· Prepare and update materials for Capitol Hill visits
· Assist with all phases of preparation for special outreach events, including advocacy missions
· Compile and analyze surveys
· Research and draft documents on issues which include, but are not limited to, senior transportation, aging, Israel, Medicaid, Darfur, Medicare, Iran, and family caregiving.

The Federal Policy Internship is a part-time position (flexible but consistent 15-20/hour/week). The internship will begin September 6 and will end mid-December (dates are flexible with your school schedule). This internship is unpaid, but we may be able to help you obtain credit for the internship. The internship is open to current sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
